अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
दि॒वि न के॒तुरधि॑ धायि हर्य॒तो वि॒व्यच॒द्वज्रो॒ हरि॑तो॒ न रंह्या॑ । तु॒दद॒हिं हरि॑शिप्रो॒ य आ॑य॒सः स॒हस्र॑शोका अभवद्धरिम्भ॒रः ॥ (४)
इंद्र का वज्र सूर्य के समान अंतरिक्ष में स्थित है. जिस प्रकार सूर्य के अश्व वेग से आकाश को प्राप्त होते हैं, उसी प्रकार इंद्र का वज्र गंतव्य स्थान पर पहुंच जाता है. इंद्र ने अपने हरे वज्र से वृत्रासुर को संतप्त किया तथा उस के सहस्रो साथियों को शोक में डाल दिया. (४)
Indra's thunderbolt is located in space similar to the Sun. Just as the sun's horse velocity receives the sky, so Indra's thunderbolt reaches the destination. Indra anrmented Vritrasura with his green thunderbolt and put his companions in mourning. (4)
