अथर्ववेद (कांड 8)
यौ ते॑ मा॒तोन्म॒मार्ज॑ जा॒तायाः॑ पति॒वेद॑नौ । दु॒र्णामा॒ तत्र॒ मा गृ॑धद॒लिंश॑ उ॒त व॒त्सपः॑ ॥ (१)
हे गर्भिणी! तेरे जन्म लेने के समय तेरी माता ने पति को प्राप्त होने वाले जो दुर्नाम और सुनाम नामक दो उन्मार्जन किए थे, उन में त्वचा के दोष से सुगंधित दुर्नाम तेरी इच्छा न करे अर्थात् तुझे प्राप्त न हो तथा अलीश एवं वत्सप नामक रोग भी तुझे न हों. (१)
This pregnant woman! At the time of your birth, your mother should not want you to be scented with skin defects in the two vows called Durnam and Sunam, which were received by your husband, that is, you should not get it and you should not have diseases called Alish and Vatsap. (1)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 8)
प॑लालानुपला॒लौ शर्कुं॒ कोकं॑ मलिम्लु॒चं प॒लीज॑कम् । आ॒श्रेषं॑ व॒व्रिवा॑सस॒मृक्ष॑ग्रीवं प्रमी॒लिन॑म् ॥ (२)
गर्भिणी को पीड़ा पहुंचाने वाले जो पलाल, अनुपलाल, शर्कु, कोक, मलिम्लुच, पलीजक, आश्रेष, वब्रिवास, ऋक्षग्रीव एवं प्रमीली नामक राक्षस हैं, मैं उन सब का विनाश करता हूं. (२)
I destroy all those demons named Palal, Anuplal, Sharku, Kok, Malimluch, Palijak, Ashresh, Vabrivas, Rikshgreva and Pramili who hurt the pregnant woman. (2)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 8)
मा सं वृ॑तो॒ मोप॑ सृप ऊ॒रू माव॑ सृपोऽन्त॒रा । कृ॒णोम्य॑स्यै भेष॒जं ब॒जं दु॑र्णाम॒चात॑नम् ॥ (३)
हे दुर्नाम रोग से संबंधित राक्षस! इस गर्भिणी की जंघाओं के मध्य में संकोच उत्पन्न मत कर तथा उन के भीतर प्रवेश भी मत कर. तू गर्भिणी की जंघाओं के नीचे की ओर भी मत खिसक. इस गर्भिणी से संबंधित सफेद सरसों के रूप में मैं जो ओषधि तैयार करता हूं, वह दुर्नाम रोग का विनाश करने वाली है. (३)
O demon related to Durnam disease! Do not hesitate between the thighs of this pregnant woman and do not even enter them. Do not even slip downwards of the thighs of the pregnant woman. The medicine I prepare in the form of white mustard related to this womb is going to destroy the disease. (3)

दु॒र्णामा॑ च सु॒नामा॑ चो॒भा सं॒वृत॑मिच्छतः । अ॒राया॒नप॑ हन्मः सु॒नामा॒ स्त्रैण॑मिच्छताम् ॥ (४)
दुर्नाम और सुनाम नामक दोनों रोग एक साथ ही संचरण करना चाहते हैं. मैं उन में से दुर्नाम को नष्ट करता हूं, जो सुंदरता का विरोधी है. सुनाम स्त्री की इच्छा करने वाला हो. (४)
Both diseases called Durnam and Sunam want to be transmitted simultaneously. I destroy durnam, one of them, who is opposed to beauty. You are going to want a woman. (4)

यः कृ॒ष्णः के॒श्यसु॑र स्तम्ब॒ज उ॒त तुण्डि॑कः । अ॒राया॑नस्या मु॒ष्काभ्यां॒ भंस॒सोऽप॑ हन्मसि ॥ (५)
जो कृष्णकेशी, स्तंबज एवं तुंडिक नामक असुर हैं, ये सब दुर्भाग्य रूपी रोग हैं. मैं इन्हें गर्भिणी की जंघाओं तथा कमर से दूर करता हूं. (५)
Those who are asuras named Krishnakeshi, Stambaj and Tundik, all these are diseases of misfortune. I remove them from the thighs and waist of the womb. (5)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 8)
अ॑नुजि॒घ्रं प्र॑मृ॒शन्तं॑ क्र॒व्याद॑मु॒त रे॑रि॒हम् । अ॒रायां॑छ्वकि॒ष्किणो॑ ब॒जः पि॒ङ्गो अ॑नीनशत् ॥ (६)
अनुजिष्र, प्रमृशन्त, कृव्याद एवं रेरिह नामक जो सुंदरता विनाशक रोगों से संबंधित राक्षस हैं, मैं ने पीली सरसों रूपी ओषधि के द्वारा इन सभी हिंसकों का विनाश कर दिया है. (६)
The demons named Anujishra, Pramrishant, Krivyad and Rerih, who are related to beauty-destroying diseases, I have destroyed all these violent people through the medicine of yellow mustard. (6)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 8)
यस्त्वा॒ स्वप्ने॑ नि॒पद्य॑ते॒ भ्राता॑ भू॒त्वा पि॒तेव॑ च । ब॒जस्तान्त्स॑हतामि॒तः क्ली॒बरू॑पांस्तिरी॒टिनः॑ ॥ (७)
हे गर्भिणी! जो राक्षस तेरी स्वप्न अवस्था में सहोदर भ्राता एवं पिता के समान विश्वास उत्पन्न करता हुआ गर्भ नष्ट करने के विचार से तुझ में प्रवेश करता है, मैं सफेद सरसों रूपी ओषधि के द्वारा इन सब को तथा नपुंसक का रूप बना कर घूमने वाले सभी राक्षसों का विनाश करता हूं. (७)
This pregnant woman! The demon who enters you with the thought of destroying the womb, instilling faith like a brother and father in your dream state, I destroy all these and all the demons who roam around as impotent through white mustard medicine. (7)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 8)
यस्त्वा॑ स्व॒पन्तीं॒ त्सर॑ति॒ यस्त्वा॒ दिप्स॑ति॒ जाग्र॑तीम् । छा॒यामि॑व॒ प्र तान्त्सूर्यः॑ परि॒क्राम॑न्ननीनशत् ॥ (८)
हे गर्भिणी! जो राक्षस सोते समय तेरे समीप आता है अथवा जो जाग्रत अवस्था में तेरी हिंसा करना चाहता है, यह सरसों उन सब को उसी प्रकार नष्ट कर दे, जिस प्रकार आकाश में विचरण करने वाला सूर्य अंधकार का विनाश करता है. (८)
This pregnant woman! May the demon who comes near you while sleeping or who wants to do violence to you in a waking state, may this mustard destroy them all in the same way as the sun that roams in the sky destroys darkness. (8)
