अथर्ववेद (कांड 13)
चि॒त्रं दे॒वानां॑ के॒तुरनी॑कं॒ ज्योति॑ष्मान्प्र॒दिशः॒ सूर्य॑ उ॒द्यन् । दि॑वाक॒रोऽति॑ द्यु॒म्नैस्तमां॑सि॒ विश्वा॑तारीद्दुरि॒तानि॑ शु॒क्रः ॥ (३४)
देवताओं की धजा रूप सूर्य सब के दर्शनीय हैं. ये उदय हो कर दिशाओं को प्रकाशित करते हैं तथा सभी प्रकार के अंधकार को मिटाते हुए अपने प्रकाश से दिन को प्रकट करते हैं. सूर्य देव पापों को दूर करते हैं. (३४)
The sun, the dhaja form of the gods, is visible to everyone. They rise and illuminate directions and reveal the day with their light, eliminating all kinds of darkness. The Sun God removes sins. (34)
