अथर्ववेद (कांड 15)
शै॑शि॒रौ मासौ॑गो॒प्तारा॒वकु॑र्व॒न्दिवं॑ चादि॒त्यं चा॑नुष्ठा॒तारौ॑ ॥ (१७)
देवताओं ने ऊर्ध्व दिशा अर्थात् ऊपर की ओर से शिशिर ऋतु के दो महीनों को उस का रक्षक नियुक्त किया और आकाश तथा सूर्य को उस का अनुष्ठान करने वाला बनाया. (१७)
The gods appointed the two months of shishir season from the upper side as its protector and made the sky and the sun its rituals. (17)
