अथर्ववेद (कांड 8)
ये पूर्वे॑ व॒ध्वो॒ यन्ति॒ हस्ते॒ शृङ्गा॑णि॒ बिभ्र॑तः । आ॑पाके॒स्थाः प्र॑हा॒सिन॑ स्त॒म्बे ये कु॒र्वते॒ ज्योति॒स्तानि॒तो ना॑शयामसि ॥ (१४)
जो पिशाच अपने बजाने के लिए अथवा पीने के लिए अपने हाथों में सींग ले कर अपनी पत्नियों के साथ घूमते हैं जो पाकशालाओं अथवा कुम्हारों के घरों में स्थित हैं, जो अट्टहास करते हैं तथा जो घर के खंभों पर अग्नि का रूप बना लेते हैं, उन सब को हम गर्भिणी के निवास स्थान से दूर भगाते हैं. (१४)
The vampires who roam around with horns in their hands for their play or drinking, who are located in the houses of culinary or potters, who laugh and who make the form of agni on the pillars of the house, we drive them away from the abode of the womb. (14)
