ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
पा॒हि न॑ इन्द्र सुष्टुत स्रि॒धो॑ऽवया॒ता सद॒मिद्दु॑र्मती॒नां दे॒वः सन्दु॑र्मती॒नाम् । ह॒न्ता पा॒पस्य॑ र॒क्षस॑स्त्रा॒ता विप्र॑स्य॒ माव॑तः । अधा॒ हि त्वा॑ जनि॒ता जीज॑नद्वसो रक्षो॒हणं॑ त्वा॒ जीज॑नद्वसो ॥ (११)
हे शोभन स्तुतियों से युक्त इंद्र! हमें दुःखद पापों से बचाओ, क्योंकि तुम दुष्ट राक्षसों की सदा अवनति करने वाले हो. तुम हमारी स्तुतियों से प्रसन्न होकर दुर्बुद्धि यज्ञबाधकों को पराजित करो. तुम फल प्रतिबंधक पाप के घातक तथा हमारे समान मेधावी यजमानों के रक्षक हो. हे निवास हेतु इंद्र! तुम्हें सबके जन्मदाता ने इसीलिए उत्पन्न किया है. हे निवासदाता! तुम राक्षसों के विनाश के लिए उत्पन्न हुए हो. (११)
O Indra with sobhan praises! Save us from sorrowful sins, for you are the ones who are the ones who are to destroy evil demons forever. You, being pleased with our praises, defeat the evil-wise yagyavadhaks. You are the protector of the deadly and glorious hosts like us, the deadly of fruit-bearing sin. O Indra for the abode! That is why you were created by the Creator of all. O lord! You have been born to the destruction of demons. (11)
