ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
पु॒रु त्वा॑ दा॒श्वान्वो॑चे॒ऽरिर॑ग्ने॒ तव॑ स्वि॒दा । तो॒दस्ये॑व शर॒ण आ म॒हस्य॑ ॥ (१)
हे अग्नि! मैंने तुम्हें तुम्हारा प्रिय हव्य दिया है. इसलिए मैं भांति-भांति की प्रार्थनाएं कर रहा हूं. मैं तुम्हारा ही सेवक हूं. जिस प्रकार महान् स्वामी के घर में सेवक रहता है, उसी प्रकार तुम्हारे यज्ञस्थल में मैं निवास करता हूं. (१)
O fire! I have given you your beloved greeting. That's why I'm praying a variety of prayers. I am your servant. Just as the servant dwells in the house of the great master, so I dwell in your sacrificial place. (1)

व्य॑नि॒नस्य॑ ध॒निनः॑ प्रहो॒षे चि॒दर॑रुषः । क॒दा च॒न प्र॒जिग॑तो॒ अदे॑वयोः ॥ (२)
हे अग्नि देव! जो धनी लोग तुम्हें स्वामी नहीं मानते, जो उत्तम यज्ञ के लिए दक्षिणा नहीं देते एवं जो देवों की स्तुति नहीं करते, उन देवविरोधी लोगों को धन मत देना. (२)
O God of fire! Those who do not consider you masters, who do not give dakshina for the best yajna, and who do not praise the gods, do not give money to those who do not praise the gods. (2)

स च॒न्द्रो वि॑प्र॒ मर्त्यो॑ म॒हो व्राध॑न्तमो दि॒वि । प्रप्रेत्ते॑ अग्ने व॒नुषः॑ स्याम ॥ (३)
हे अग्नि! जो बुद्धिमान् मनुष्य तुम्हारा यज्ञ करता है, वह आकाश में चंद्रमा के समान सबका आह्लादक बनता है एवं प्रधानो का भी प्रधान होता है. इसलिए हम विशेष रूप से तुम्हारे सेवक हैं. (३)
O fire! The wise man who performs your yajna becomes the call of all like the moon in the sky and is also the chief of the princes. That's why we are especially your servants. (3)
