ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
परं॑ मृत्यो॒ अनु॒ परे॑हि॒ पन्थां॒ यस्ते॒ स्व इत॑रो देव॒याना॑त् । चक्षु॑ष्मते शृण्व॒ते ते॑ ब्रवीमि॒ मा नः॑ प्र॒जां री॑रिषो॒ मोत वी॒रान् ॥ (१)
हे मृत्यु देव! तुम देवयान से भिन्न मार्ग द्वारा यजमान से दूर हट जाओ. हे नेत्र वाले एवं सब कुछ सुनने वाले मृत्यु देव! मैं तुमसे कहता हूं कि हमारी संतान और हमारे वीरों को मत मारना. (१)
O God of death! You move away from the host by a different path from Devyana. O God of death with eyes and hearing all things! I tell you not to kill our children and our heroes. (1)

मृ॒त्योः प॒दं यो॒पय॑न्तो॒ यदैत॒ द्राघी॑य॒ आयुः॑ प्रत॒रं दधा॑नाः । आ॒प्याय॑मानाः प्र॒जया॒ धने॑न शु॒द्धाः पू॒ता भ॑वत यज्ञियासः ॥ (२)
हे मृत व्यक्ति के संबंधियो! तुम मृत्यु के मार्ग अर्थात् पितृयान को छोड़ो. इस प्रकार तुम लंबी आयु प्राप्त करोगे. हे यज्ञ करने वाले यजमानो! तुम संतान एवं गाय आदि धन से संपन्न होकर जन्ममरण के दुःख से शुद्ध एवं पवित्र बनो. (२)
O relatives of the dead man! You leave the path of death i.e. the pitrayana. This way you will get a long life. O hosts who perform yajna! You should be pure and holy from the sorrow of birth by being blessed with wealth like children and cows etc. (2)

इ॒मे जी॒वा वि मृ॒तैराव॑वृत्र॒न्नभू॑द्भ॒द्रा दे॒वहू॑तिर्नो अ॒द्य । प्राञ्चो॑ अगाम नृ॒तये॒ हसा॑य॒ द्राघी॑य॒ आयुः॑ प्रत॒रं दधा॑नाः ॥ (३)
ये जीते हुए लोग मरे हुए व्यक्तियों के पास से लौट आवें. आज हमारा पितृमेध यज्ञ कल्याणकारी हो. हम नृत्य और हास्य की ओर उन्मुख हों एवं अधिक लंबी अवस्था धारण करें. (३)
Let these living people return from the dead. Today our Pitramedha Yajna be beneficial. Let's be oriented towards dance and humor and take a longer stage. (3)

इ॒मं जी॒वेभ्यः॑ परि॒धिं द॑धामि॒ मैषां॒ नु गा॒दप॑रो॒ अर्थ॑मे॒तम् । श॒तं जी॑वन्तु श॒रदः॑ पुरू॒चीर॒न्तर्मृ॒त्युं द॑धतां॒ पर्व॑तेन ॥ (४)
मैं जीवित पुत्र-पौत्रों की रक्षा के पत्थर के रूप में मृत्यु की सीमा रखता हूं. कोई अन्य इस मरणमार्ग से न जावे. ये लोग सैकड़ों वर्ष जीवित रहें एवं इस पत्थर के द्वारा मृत्यु को अपने से दूर रखें. (४)
I limit death as a stone of protecting living sons and grandsons. Let no one else go through this moribund path. May these people live hundreds of years and keep death away from themselves through this stone. (4)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
यथाहा॑न्यनुपू॒र्वं भव॑न्ति॒ यथ॑ ऋ॒तव॑ ऋ॒तुभि॒र्यन्ति॑ सा॒धु । यथा॒ न पूर्व॒मप॑रो॒ जहा॑त्ये॒वा धा॑त॒रायूं॑षि कल्पयैषाम् ॥ (५)
हे धाता! जिस प्रकार दिन पर दिन बीतते हैं एवं ऋतुएं ऋलुओं के पश्चात् ठीक से जाती हैं, उसी प्रकार पहले पैदा हुए पिता आदि के सामने बाद में उत्पन्न हुए पुत्र आदि नहीं मरते हैं. हमारे परिवारों की आयु इसी प्रकार स्थिर रखो. (५)
O dhata! Just as day by day and the seasons go well after the rilus, so the sons born later in front of the father, etc., who were born earlier, do not die. Keep the age of our families stable in the same way. (5)

आ रो॑ह॒तायु॑र्ज॒रसं॑ वृणा॒ना अ॑नुपू॒र्वं यत॑माना॒ यति॒ ष्ठ । इ॒ह त्वष्टा॑ सु॒जनि॑मा स॒जोषा॑ दी॒र्घमायुः॑ करति जी॒वसे॑ वः ॥ (६)
हे मृतक के पुत्र-पौत्रादि लोगो! बुढ़ापे को धारण करते हुए तुम लोग जीवन में स्थित रहो. तुम क्रम से अर्थात् बड़े के बाद छोटा, कार्य को यत्न से करते रहो. तुम्हारे साथ काम में लगे हुए शोभन-जन्म वाले त्वष्टा देव तुम्हारी आयु लंबी बनावें. (६)
O sons and grandsons of the deceased! You stay in life while holding on to old age. You keep doing the work diligently in order i.e. from big to small, i.e. small after big. May the brave-born Tvashta Dev who is working with you make your life long. (6)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
इ॒मा नारी॑रविध॒वाः सु॒पत्नी॒राञ्ज॑नेन स॒र्पिषा॒ सं वि॑शन्तु । अ॒न॒श्रवो॑ऽनमी॒वाः सु॒रत्ना॒ आ रो॑हन्तु॒ जन॑यो॒ योनि॒मग्रे॑ ॥ (७)
ये सधवा एवं शोभन पत्नियां-नारियां घृत और अन्न के साथ अपने घर में प्रवेश करें. ये स्त्रियां आंसुओं के बिना रोगरहित और शोभनधन वाली बनकर अपने घर में सबसे पहले पहुंचें. (७)
These virtuous and beautiful wives and women should enter their homes with ghee and food grains. May these women be the first to reach their homes without tears, disease-free and beautiful. (7)

उदी॑र्ष्व नार्य॒भि जी॑वलो॒कं ग॒तासु॑मे॒तमुप॑ शेष॒ एहि॑ । ह॒स्त॒ग्रा॒भस्य॑ दिधि॒षोस्तवे॒दं पत्यु॑र्जनि॒त्वम॒भि सं ब॑भूथ ॥ (८)
हे मृतक की पत्नी! तुम अपने पुत्रों और घर का ध्यान करके यहां से उठो. तुम इस मरे हुए के पास क्यों सोई हो? आओ. तुम इस पुरुष से पाणिग्रहण और गर्भाधान के अनुरूप व्यवहार कर चुकी हो. तुम इसके साथ मरने का विचार छोड़ो. (८)
O wife of the deceased! You take care of your sons and home and get up from here. Why did you sleep next to this dead man? Come. You have behaved with this man in a manner befitting marriage and conception. You give up the idea of dying with the deceased. (8)
