ऋग्वेद: | सूक्त: 51
नृ॒णामु॑ त्वा॒ नृत॑मं गी॒र्भिरु॒क्थैर॒भि प्र वी॒रम॑र्चता स॒बाधः॑ । सं सह॑से पुरुमा॒यो जि॑हीते॒ नमो॑ अस्य प्र॒दिव॒ एक॑ ईशे ॥ (४)
हे मनुष्यों के उत्तम नेता एवं परमवीर इंद्र! राक्षसों द्वारा बाधित ऋत्विज्‌ स्तुतियों एवं उवों से प्रमुख रूप से तुम्हारी पूजा करते हैं. वृत्रहनन आदि प्रसिद्ध कर्म करने वाले इंद्र शक्ति पाने के लिए गमन करते हैं. एकमात्र पुरातन एवं सर्व जगत्‌ के स्वामी इंद्र को नमस्कार है. (४)
