ऋग्वेद (मंडल 9)
यथाप॑वथा॒ मन॑वे वयो॒धा अ॑मित्र॒हा व॑रिवो॒विद्ध॒विष्मा॑न् । ए॒वा प॑वस्व॒ द्रवि॑णं॒ दधा॑न॒ इन्द्रे॒ सं ति॑ष्ठ ज॒नयायु॑धानि ॥ (१२)
हे सोम! तुम प्राचीनकाल में जिस प्रकार मनु के लिए अन्न देने वाले, शन्रुसंहारकर्ता, धनदाता एवं पुरोडाशादिदाता बने थे, उसी प्रकार हमें भी धन देने के लिए आओ, इंद्र के समीप ठहरो एवं उन्हें आयुध दो. (१२)
Hey Mon! Just as you became the giver of food for Manu in ancient times, the destroyer, the giver of money and the purodashadideta, so also come to give us money, stay near Indra and give him arms. (12)
