सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
अग्न आ याहि वीतये गृणानो हव्यदातये । नि होता सत्सि बर्हिषि ॥ (१)
हे अग्नि! हम सब आप की स्तुति (पूजा) करते हैं. यज्ञ में आप को आमंत्रित करते हैं. आप आ कर कुश (घास) के आसन पर बैठिए. आप हवि (अग्नि में डाली जाने वाली पवित्र चीजें) देवताओं तक पहुंचाइए. (यह माना जाता है कि हम अग्नि में जो पदार्थ डालते हैं, वे अग्नि के द्वारा मंत्र से संबंधित देवता तक पहुंचते हैं). (१)
O agni! We all praise (worship) you. Invite you to the yajna. You come and sit on the seat of Kush (grass). You convey the havi (sacred things to be put in the agni) to the gods. (It is believed that the substances we put in the agni reach the deity related to the mantra through the agni). (1)
सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
त्वमग्ने यज्ञानाँ होता विश्वेषाँ हितः । देवेभिर्मानुषे जने ॥ (२)
हे अग्नि! आप यज्ञों के पुरोहित हैं. आप सब का कल्याण करने वाले हैं. देवताओं ने ही आप को मनुष्यों (जनों) के बीच में स्थापित किया है. (२)
O agni! You are the priest of yagyas. You are going to benefit everyone. It is the gods who have established you among the human beings. (2)
सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
अग्निं दूतं वृणीमहे होतारं विश्ववेदसम् । अस्य यज्ञस्य सुक्रतुम् ॥ (३)
हे अग्नि! आप सब कुछ जानने वाले हैं. आप धन के स्वामी हैं. इस यज्ञ को अच्छी तरह करने के लिए हम आप को दूत मान कर भेज रहे हैं. (हवि अग्नि के माध्यम से संबंधित देवता तक पहुंचती है, इसलिए अग्ने को देवता का दूत माना जाता है). (३)
O agni! You are going to know everything. You are the master of wealth. To do this yajna well, we are sending you as an ambassador. (Havi reaches the deity concerned through agni, so Agne is considered the messenger of the deity). (3)
सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
अग्निर्वृत्राणि जङ्घनद्द्रविणस्युर्विपन्यया । समिद्धः शुक्र आहुतः ॥ (४)
हे अग्नि! आप अपने पूजकों को धन देने वाले हैं. समिधा (जिस से यज्ञ की अग्नि प्रज्वलित की जाती है) से आप को अच्छी तरह प्रकाशित किया गया है. आप हमारी स्तुति से प्रसन्न होइए. यज्ञ में विघ्न डालने वालों (राक्षसों एवं दुष्ट प्रवृत्तियों) को नष्ट कीजिए. (४)
O agni! You are going to give money to your worshippers. You have been well illuminated by samidha (from which the agni of yajna is lit). Please be pleased with our praise. Destroy those who disturb the yajna (demons and evil tendencies). (4)
सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
प्रेष्ठं वो अतिथिँ स्तुषे मित्रमिव प्रियम् । अग्ने रथं न वेद्यम् ॥ (५)
हे अग्नि! आप पूजकों को धन देने वाले हैं. उन्हें मित्र की तरह बहुत प्रिय हैं. मेहमान की तरह पूजा करने योग्य हैं. आप हमारी पूजा से प्रसन्न होइए. (५)
O agni! You are going to give money to worshippers. They are very dear like friends. Are worthy of worship like guests. Please be happy with our worship. (5)
सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
त्वं नो अग्ने महोभिः पाहि विश्वस्या अरातेः । उत द्विषो मर्त्यस्य ॥ (६)
हे अग्नि! आप इ्ष्याद्वेष करने वाले लोगों और दुश्मनों से हमें बचाइए. हे अग्नि! हमें बहुत सुखसंपन्रता प्रदान कीजिए. (६)
O agni! You save us from hostile people and enemies. O agni! Give us a lot of happiness. (6)
सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
एह्यू षु ब्रवाणि तेऽग्न इत्थेतरा गिरः । एभिर्वर्धास इन्दुभिः ॥ (७)
हे अग्नि! आप पधारिए. हम आप के लिए शुद्ध वाणी से मंत्र पढ़ रहे हैं. आप उन्हें सुनिए. सोमरस से आप समृद्ध बनिए. (७)
O agni! You come. We are reciting mantras for you with pure speech. You listen to them. Be prosperous with Somers. (7)
सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
आ ते वत्सो मनो यमत्परमाच्चित्सधस्थात् । अग्ने त्वां कामये गिरा ॥ (८)
हे अग्नि! हम आप के पुत्र हैं. मन से आप को आमंत्रित करना चाहते हैं. आप श्रेष्ठ जगह से भी हमारे लिए आइए. हम वाणी (मंत्र पाठ) से आप को भजते हैं. (८)
O agni! We are your sons. Want to invite you from the mind. You come for us from the best place too. We worship you with speech (mantra recitation). (8)
