सामवेद (अध्याय 1)
यद्वा उ विश्पतिः शितः सुप्रीतो मनुषो विशे । विश्वेदग्निः प्रति रक्षाँसि सेधति ॥ (८)
हे अग्नि! आप यजमानों के पालनहार हैं. हवियों से तृप्त और प्रसन्न होने पर आप जब तक मनुष्यों के घर रहते हैं तब तक उन के सभी कष्ट दूर करते हैं. यह बात जग प्रसिद्ध है. (८)
O agni! You are the sustainer of the hosts. When satisfied and happy with the wives, you remove all the sufferings of humans as long as you stay in their homes. This thing is world famous. (8)
