यजुर्वेद (अध्याय 24)
धू॒म्रा ब॒भ्रुनी॑काशाः पितॄ॒णासोम॑वतां ब॒भ्रवो॑ धू॒म्रनी॑काशाः पितॄ॒णां ब॑र्हि॒षदां॑ कृ॒ष्णा ब॒भ्रुनी॑काशाः पितॄ॒णाम॑ग्निष्वा॒त्तानां॑ कृ॒ष्णाः पृष॑न्तस्त्रैयम्ब॒काः ॥ (१८)
धुएं जैसे भूरे रंग के पशु पितरों के लिए हैं. धुएं और नेवले जैसे भूरे रंग के सोम गुणों वाले पशु पितरों के लिए हैं. काले और भूरे रंग के कुश के आसन पर बैठे पशु पितरों के लिए हैं. अग्नि विद्या में निपुण पशु पितरों के लिए हैं. काले रंग के चकत्तेदार पशु पितरों के लिए हैं. (१८)
Smoke-like brown animals are for the ancestors. Animals with brown som properties like smoke and mongoose are for the ancestors. Animals sitting on the seat of black and brown Kush are for the ancestors. Animals skilled in agni knowledge are for ancestors. Black rashes are for animals. (18)
