अथर्ववेद (कांड 11)
तत॑श्चैनम॒न्येन॑ व॒स्तिना॒ प्राशी॒र्येन॑ चै॒तं पूर्व॒ ऋष॑यः॒ प्राश्न॑न् । अ॒प्सु म॑रिष्य॒सीत्ये॑नमाह । तं वा अ॒हं ना॒र्वाञ्चं॒ न परा॑ञ्चं॒ न प्र॒त्यञ्च॑म् । स॑मु॒द्रेण॑ व॒स्तिना॑ । तेनै॑नं॒ प्राशि॑षं॒ तेनै॑नमजीगमम् । ए॒ष वा ओ॑द॒नः सर्वा॑ङ्गः॒ सर्व॑परुः॒ सर्व॑तनूः । सर्वा॑ङ्ग ए॒व सर्व॑परुः॒ सर्व॑तनूः॒ सं भ॑वति॒ य ए॒वं वेद॑ ॥ (१२)
गुरु अपने शिष्य से इस प्रकार कहे-'हे देवदत्त पूर्ववर्ती अनुष्ठान करने वाले ऋषियों ने उस ओदन का सेवन जिस व्यक्ति अर्थात् मूत्राशय की सहायता से किया, तुम ने यदि उस से भिन्न विधि से इस ओदन का सेवन किया तो तुम्हारी मृत्यु जल में होगी.' उस के उत्तर रूप में शिष्य अपने गुरु से कहे कि मैं ने इस ओदन का सेवन न पराङ्मुख होकर किया, न सामने से किया और न आत्माभिमुख हो कर किया है. मैं ने इसका सेवन समुद्ररूपी बस्ती अर्थात् मूत्राशय की सहायता से किया है. मैं ने इस ओदन को वहीं पहुंचा दिया है जहां इसे जाना चाहिए था. यह ओदन समस्त अंगों से युक्त सभी जोड़ों वाला और संपूर्ण शरीर रहित है. इस स्थिति से जो इस ओदन का सेवन करना जानता है वही समस्त अंगों वाला सभी जोड़ों सहित और संपूर्ण शरीर वाला है. वह स्वर्ग आदि पुण्य लोकों में स्थित होता है. The Guru said to his disciple thus- 'O Devadatta, the sages who performed the previous ritual consumed that odan with the help of the person i.e. bladder, if you consume this odan in a different way than that, then you will die in water.' It is not done from the front or by facing the soul. I have consumed it with the help of the sea-like settlement i.e. bladder. I have taken this odan where it should have gone. This omen is full of all the joints and the whole body with all the organs. From this situation, the one who knows how to consume this odan is the one with all the organs including all the joints and the whole body. He is situated in the virtuous worlds like heaven etc. (12)
