अथर्ववेद (कांड 18)
स्तु॒हि श्रु॒तंग॑र्त॒सदं॒ जना॑नां॒ राजा॑नं भी॒ममु॑पह॒त्नुमु॒ग्रम् । मृ॒डा ज॑रि॒त्रे रु॑द्र॒स्तवा॑नो अ॒न्यम॒स्मत्ते॒ नि व॑पन्तु॒ सेन्य॑म् ॥ (४०)
हे स्तोता! उन रुद्र देवता की स्तुति करो, जिन का निवास स्थान श्मशान में है, जो पिशाच आदि के स्वामी हैं तथा जो पराक्रमी, भय उत्पन्न करने वाले तथा समीप आ कर हिंसित करने वाले हैं. हे दुःख का नाश करने वाले इंद्र! तुम हमारी स्तुति से प्रसन्न हो कर हमें ड प्रदान करो. तुम्हारी सेना हम को त्याग कर उन पर आक्रमण करे जो हम से द्वेष रखते ई, (४०)
This hymn! Praise the Rudra devta, whose abode is in the crematorium, who is the swami of vampires etc. and who is mighty, fear-mongering and near and violent. O Indra, the destroyer of sorrow! Please be pleased with our praise and give us courage. Let your army forsake us and attack those who hate us, (40)
