अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
अया॑मि॒ घोष॑ इन्द्र दे॒वजा॑मिरिर॒ज्यन्त॒ यच्छु॒रुधो॒ विवा॑चि । न॒हि स्वमायु॑श्चिकि॒ते जने॑षु॒ तानीदंहां॒स्यति॑ पर्ष्य॒स्मान् ॥ (२)
हे इंद्र! मैं उस स्तोत्र का उच्चारण करता हूं जो देवों को बंधु के समान प्रिय है. इस स्तोत्र के द्वारा उस सोम की वृद्धि होती है जो यजमान को स्वर्ग का फल देने वाला है. मनुष्यों के मध्य रहने वाला यह यजमान अपनी आयु नहीं जानता है. हमें इतनी दीर्घ आयु प्रदान करो, जिस से यह तुम्हारे लिए यज्ञ आदि का अनुष्ठान कर सके. आयु का नाश करने वाले जो पाप हैं, उन्हें इस से दूर रखो. O Indra! I recite the hymn that is dear to the gods as a brother. Through this hymn, there is an increase in the soma that is going to give the fruit of heaven to the host. This host living among humans does not know his age. Give us such a long life that it can perform the ritual of sacrifice etc. for you. Keep away from this the sins that destroy life. (2)
