अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
य॒दा व॒लस्य॒ पीय॑तो॒ जसुं॒ भेद्बृह॒स्पति॑रग्नि॒तपो॑भिर॒र्कैः । द॒द्भिर्न जि॒ह्वा परि॑विष्ट॒माद॑दा॒विर्नि॒धीँर॑कृणोदु॒स्रिया॑णाम् ॥ (६)
बृहस्पति देव ने जिस समय बल नामक असुर के हिंसा के साधन आयुध को अग्नि के समान ताप वाले अपने मंत्रों से तोड़ दिया था, उस समय उन्होंने बल असुर के द्वारा छिपाई गई दुधारू गायों को उसी प्रकार प्रकट कर दिया था, जिस प्रकार चबाए हुए अन्न को जीभ भक्षण करती है. जब बृहस्पति देव ने पर्वत की गुफा में छिपी हुई गायों को उन के र॑भाने के स्वर से जान लिया, तब पर्वत का भेदन कर के उन्होंने गायों को इस प्रकार बाहर निकाल लिया, जिस प्रकार मोर आदि के अंडे को तोड़ कर उस के भीतर से बच्चा निकाला जाता है. At the time when Jupiter had broken the weapon of violence of a demon called Bal with his mantras of the same heat as agni, he revealed the milch cows hidden by the bal asura in the same way that the tongue eats chewed food. When Jupiter came to know the cows hidden in the cave of the mountain with their voice of worship, then by piercing the mountain, he took out the cows in such a way that the eggs of peacocks etc. are broken and the child is removed from inside it.
