जमदग्नि ऋषि ने अपनी पुत्री के केशों को बढ़ाने वाली जिस ओषधि को खोदा था, उसे वीतहव्य महर्षि ने अपने केश बढ़ाने के लिए असित केश नामक मुनि के घर से जिसे चुराया था. (१)

हे केशों को बढ़ाने के इच्छुक पुरुष! पहले तेरे केश अंगुलों में (दो अंगुल, चार अंगुल आदि रूप में) नापने योग्य थे. इस के पश्चात वे दोनों हाथ फैला कर नापने योग्य हो गए. हे पुरुष! तेरे शीश के चारों ओर केश नड नामक घास के समान बढ़ें. (२)

हे ओषधि, मेरे बालों की जड़ों को दृढ़ बना तथा उन के ऊपरी भाग को लंबा बना. इस के अतिरिक्त तू मेरे केशों के मध्य भाग को दृढ़ बना. हे पुरुष! तेरे शीश के चारों ओर केश नई घास के समान बढ़ें. (३)
