ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
क॒था ते॑ अग्ने शु॒चय॑न्त आ॒योर्द॑दा॒शुर्वाजे॑भिराशुषा॒णाः । उ॒भे यत्तो॒के तन॑ये॒ दधा॑ना ऋ॒तस्य॒ साम॑न्र॒णय॑न्त दे॒वाः ॥ (१)
हे अग्नि! तुम्हारी चमकती हुई और सोखने वाली लपटें अन्न एवं आयु किस प्रकार देती हैं, जिनसे पुत्र-पौत्र आदि के लिए अन्न एवं आयु प्राप्त करते हुए यज्ञ संबंधी साममंत्रों का गान करते हैं? (१)
O fire! How do your shining and soaking flames give food and age, from which the sons and grandsons sing yajna-related sammantras while receiving food and age for the sake of their children, etc.? (1)

बोधा॑ मे अ॒स्य वच॑सो यविष्ठ॒ मंहि॑ष्ठस्य॒ प्रभृ॑तस्य स्वधावः । पीय॑ति त्वो॒ अनु॑ त्वो गृणाति व॒न्दारु॑स्ते त॒न्वं॑ वन्दे अग्ने ॥ (२)
हे युवा एवं हव्यान्रयुक्त अग्नि! इस समय बोले जाते हुए मेरे महान् एवं पूजनीय स्तुतिवचनों को सुनो. कोई तुम्हारी स्तुति और कोई निंदा करता है. हे अग्नि! मैं तो तुम्हारी वंदना करने वाला हूं एवं तुम्हारी स्तुति करता हूं. (२)
O young and violent fire! Listen to my great and revered hymns as they are spoken at this time. No one praises you and no one condemns you. O fire! I'm going to worship you and praise you. (2)

ये पा॒यवो॑ मामते॒यं ते॑ अग्ने॒ पश्य॑न्तो अ॒न्धं दु॑रि॒तादर॑क्षन् । र॒रक्ष॒ तान्सु॒कृतो॑ वि॒श्ववे॑दा॒ दिप्स॑न्त॒ इद्रि॒पवो॒ नाह॑ देभुः ॥ (३)
हे अग्नि! तुम सब कुछ जानने वाले हो. तुम्हारी जिन पालक और प्रसिद्ध किरणों ने ममता के अंधे पुत्र दीर्घतमा को अंधेपन के दुःख से बचाया था, तुम अपनी उन किरणों की रक्षा करो. तुम्हारे द्वारा रक्षित हम लोगों का विनाश शत्रु नहीं कर पाएंगे. (३)
O fire! You're going to know everything. Protect your own rays of guardian and the famous rays that saved Longatama, the blind son of Mamta, from the sorrow of blindness. We protected by you will not be able to destroy the people. (3)

यो नो॑ अग्ने॒ अर॑रिवाँ अघा॒युर॑राती॒वा म॒र्चय॑ति द्व॒येन॑ । मन्त्रो॑ गु॒रुः पुन॑रस्तु॒ सो अ॑स्मा॒ अनु॑ मृक्षीष्ट त॒न्वं॑ दुरु॒क्तैः ॥ (४)
हे अग्नि! जो हमारे प्रति मारण आदि पाप का अभिलाषी है, दान नहीं देता, मानसिक एवं वाचिक दोनों प्रकार के मंत्रों द्वारा जो हमें दान देने से रोकता है, उसके लिए मंत्र का पहला मानसिक रूप हृदय का भार बने एवं दूसरा वाचिक रूप दुर्वाक्य उसका ही शरीर नष्ट करे. (४)
O fire! For the one who desires to kill us, etc., does not give charity, through both mental and verbal mantras that prevent us from giving, for him, the first mental form of the mantra should be the weight of the heart and the second verbal form of the malady should destroy his own body. (4)

उ॒त वा॒ यः स॑हस्य प्रवि॒द्वान्मर्तो॒ मर्तं॑ म॒र्चय॑ति द्व॒येन॑ । अतः॑ पाहि स्तवमान स्तु॒वन्त॒मग्ने॒ माकि॑र्नो दुरि॒ताय॑ धायीः ॥ (५)
हे बलपुत्र अग्नि! जो व्यक्ति वाचिक एवं मानसिक दोनों प्रकार के मंत्रं द्वारा मनुष्य को प्रभावित करता है, हे स्तूयमान अग्नि! मैं प्रार्थना करता हूं कि मुझ स्तुतिकर्ता की ऐसे व्यक्ति से रक्षा करो एवं मुझे पाप का भाजक मत बनाओ. (५)
O son of strength, fire! A person who affects man through both verbal and mental mantras, o stuyamaan agni! I pray that my praiseor should be protected from such a person and do not make me the divisor of sin. (5)
