ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
अ॒वः परे॑ण प॒र ए॒नाव॑रेण प॒दा व॒त्सं बिभ्र॑ती॒ गौरुद॑स्थात् । सा क॒द्रीची॒ कं स्वि॒दर्धं॒ परा॑गा॒त्क्व॑ स्वित्सूते न॒हि यू॒थे अ॒न्तः ॥ (१७)
गोरूप आहुति बछड़े रूपी अग्नि का पिछला भाग अपने सामने वाले पैरों से और अगला भाग अपने पिछले पैरों से पकड़कर ऊपर की ओर जाती है. वह कहां जाती है और किसके लिए बीच से ही लौट आती है? वह कहां पर बछड़े को जन्म देती है? वह अन्य गायों के समूह में तो बछड़ा पैदा करती नहीं है. (१७)
Gorup Ahuti moves upwards by holding the back of the calf-shaped fire with its front legs and the next part with its hind legs. Where does she go and for whom does she return from the middle? Where does she give birth to a calf? She does not produce a calf in a group of other cows then. (17)
