ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
प्र वो॑ य॒ह्वं पु॑रू॒णां वि॒शां दे॑वय॒तीना॑म् । अ॒ग्निं सू॒क्तेभि॒र्वचो॑भिरीमहे॒ यं सी॒मिद॒न्य ईळ॑ते ॥ (१)
देवों की कामना करने वाले हम बहुसंख्यक प्रजाजनों पर अनुग्रह के निमित्त सूक्तरूपी वचनों द्वारा महान् अग्नि की प्रार्थना करते हैं. अन्य ऋषिगण भी इसी अग्नि की स्तुति करते हैं. (१)
We pray for the great agni through sukta-like words for the sake of grace on the majority of the people who wish for the gods. Other sages also praise this agni. (1)

जना॑सो अ॒ग्निं द॑धिरे सहो॒वृधं॑ ह॒विष्म॑न्तो विधेम ते । स त्वं नो॑ अ॒द्य सु॒मना॑ इ॒हावि॒ता भवा॒ वाजे॑षु सन्त्य ॥ (२)
यज्ञ करने वाले लोगों ने शक्तिवर्धक अग्नि को धारण किया था. हे अग्नि! हम लोग हवि लेकर तुम्हारी सेवा करते हैं. तुम अन्नदान में तत्पर हो. आज इस यज्ञ में हम पर परम प्रसन्न होकर हमारे रक्षक बनो. (२)
The people who performed the yajna wore the powerful agni. O agni! We serve you with a lot of money. You look forward to the annadaan. Be our protectors by being the supremely pleased with us in this yagna today. (2)

प्र त्वा॑ दू॒तं वृ॑णीमहे॒ होता॑रं वि॒श्ववे॑दसम् । म॒हस्ते॑ स॒तो वि च॑रन्त्य॒र्चयो॑ दि॒वि स्पृ॑शन्ति भा॒नवः॑ ॥ (३)
हे अग्नि! तुम यज्ञ के होता एवं सर्वज्ञ हो. हम तुम्हें देवों का दूत समझकर वरण करते हैं. तुम महान् और नित्य हो. तुम्हारी चमक बढ़ती है. तुम्हारी किरणें आकाश को छूती हैं. (३)
O agni! You are of yajna and you are omniscient. We choose you as messengers of the gods. You are great and eternal. Your brightness increases. Your rays touch the sky. (3)

दे॒वास॑स्त्वा॒ वरु॑णो मि॒त्रो अ॑र्य॒मा सं दू॒तं प्र॒त्नमि॑न्धते । विश्वं॒ सो अ॑ग्ने जयति॒ त्वया॒ धनं॒ यस्ते॑ द॒दाश॒ मर्त्यः॑ ॥ (४)
हे अग्नि! वरुण, मित्र और अर्यमा-ये तीनों देव तुम्हें अपना प्राचीन दूत समझकर भली प्रकार चमकाते हैं. जो यजमान तुम्हें हवि देता है, वह तुम्हारे द्वारा सभी प्रकार की संपत्ति जीत लेता है. (४)
O agni! Varuna, friends and Aryama - these three gods make you shine well by considering you as their ancient messengers. The host who gives you the victory of all kinds of property through you. (4)

म॒न्द्रो होता॑ गृ॒हप॑ति॒रग्ने॑ दू॒तो वि॒शाम॑सि । त्वे विश्वा॒ संग॑तानि व्र॒ता ध्रु॒वा यानि॑ दे॒वा अकृ॑ण्वत ॥ (५)
हे अग्नि! तुम देवों को बुलाने वाले, यजमान रूप प्रजाओं के पालक एवं हर्षित करने वाले हो. तुम देवताओं के दूत हो. पृथ्वी आदि देवता जो स्थिर कर्म करते हैं, वे तुम में मिल जाते हैं. (५)
O agni! You are the ones who call the gods, the host, the guardians and the joyful ones of the people. You are the messenger of the gods. Earth etc. deities who do steady deeds, they get into you. (5)

त्वे इद॑ग्ने सु॒भगे॑ यविष्ठ्य॒ विश्व॒मा हू॑यते ह॒विः । स त्वं नो॑ अ॒द्य सु॒मना॑ उ॒ताप॒रं यक्षि॑ दे॒वान्सु॒वीर्या॑ ॥ (६)
हे युवक अग्नि! तुझ परम सौभाग्यशाली को लक्ष्य करके सब हव्य दिए जाते हैं. तुम प्रसन्न मन होकर आज, कल और सर्वदा सुंदर एवं शक्तिशाली देवों का यज्ञ करो. (६)
O young man, agni! All the rights are given by aiming at your most fortunate. You, with a happy mind, perform the yajna of the beautiful and powerful gods today, tomorrow and always. (6)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
तं घे॑मि॒त्था न॑म॒स्विन॒ उप॑ स्व॒राज॑मासते । होत्रा॑भिर॒ग्निं मनु॑षः॒ समि॑न्धते तिति॒र्वांसो॒ अति॒ स्रिधः॑ ॥ (७)
यजमान नमस्कार करते हुए अपने आप चमकने वाले उसी अग्नि को हवि देकर उपासना करते हैं. शत्रु को करारी हार देने के इच्छुक लोग होताओं द्वारा अग्नि को प्रज्वलित करते हैं. (७)
The hosts greet and worship the same agni that shines on their own. Those who are willing to give a crushing defeat to the enemy ignite the agni by being. (7)

घ्नन्तो॑ वृ॒त्रम॑तर॒न्रोद॑सी अ॒प उ॒रु क्षया॑य चक्रिरे । भुव॒त्कण्वे॒ वृषा॑ द्यु॒म्न्याहु॑तः॒ क्रन्द॒दश्वो॒ गवि॑ष्टिषु ॥ (८)
हे अग्नि! तुम्हारी सहायता से देवों ने वृत्र को मारकर रहने के लिए स्वर्ग, पृथ्वी और आकाश को विस्तृत किया. जिस प्रकार संग्राम में हिनहिनाता हुआ घोड़ा गाएं प्राप्त करता है, उसी प्रकार भली प्रकार बुलाए जाने पर तुम कण्व ऋषि के लिए इच्छानुसार धन बरसाओ. (८)
O agni! With your help, the gods expanded heaven, earth and sky to live by killing Vritra. Just as in the struggle, the horse receives sings, so when well called, you should shower money for the sage Kanva as you wish. (8)
