ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
वने॑षु जा॒युर्मर्ते॑षु मि॒त्रो वृ॑णी॒ते श्रु॒ष्टिं राजे॑वाजु॒र्यम् ॥ (१)
जिस प्रकार राजा जरारहित व्यक्ति का आदर करता है, उसी प्रकार अरण्य में यजमान एवं मानव सखा अग्नि शीघ्र ही यजमान पर कृपा करते हैं. रक्षक के समान कर्मसाधक कार्यकर्ता के समान कल्याणकारी, देवों का यज्ञ में आह्वान करने वाले एवं हव्यवहन करने वाले अग्नि शोभनकर्मा हैं. (१)
Just as the king reveres a man without a little wealth, so the host and human beings in the forest soon grace the host. Like a protector, the workers are as well-being as the worker, the one who invokes the devas in the yagna and the one who makes a gesture is Agni Shobhankarma. (1)

क्षेमो॒ न सा॒धुः क्रतु॒र्न भ॒द्रो भुव॑त्स्वा॒धीर्होता॑ हव्य॒वाट् ॥ (२)

समस्त हव्यरूप धन अपने हाथ में लेकर अग्नि के गुफा में छिप जाने पर सभी देव भयभीत हो गए. नेता एवं बुद्धिधारक देवों ने ज्यों ही बुद्धि निर्मित मंत्रों द्वारा अग्नि की स्तुति की, त्यों ही अग्नि को पा लिया. (३)
All the devas became frightened when agni hide in the cave with all the heavenly wealth. As soon as the leaders and the wise deities praised Agni through intellect-made mantras, they attained Agni. (3)

Protect the favorite places of animals and go to such a place which is unfit for the communication of cows. अग्नि देव ऐसे लोगों को अविलंब धन प्रदान करते हैं जो यज्ञस्थल में वर्तमान अग्नि को जानते हैं, सत्य के धारणकर्ता हैं व अग्नि के उद्देश्य से स्तुतियां करते हैं. (७)
