ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
इ॒दं त॒ एकं॑ प॒र ऊ॑ त॒ एकं॑ तृ॒तीये॑न॒ ज्योति॑षा॒ सं वि॑शस्व । सं॒वेश॑ने त॒न्व१॒॑श्चारु॑रेधि प्रि॒यो दे॒वानां॑ पर॒मे ज॒नित्रे॑ ॥ (१)
ऋषि अपने मरे हुए पुत्र वाजी से कहते हैं: तुम्हारा एक अंश अग्नि, दूसरा वायु और तीसरा तेजस्वी आत्मा है. इन तीनों अंशों से अग्नि, वायु और आत्मा में अपने शरीर के प्रवेश के समय कल्याणकारी रूप में बढ़ो तथा देवों के परम-जनक सूर्य के लोक में प्रिय बनो. (१)
The sage says to his dead son Waji: One part of you is agni, the other is air and the third is the bright soul. From these three passages, grow in welfare at the time of the entry of your body into agni, air and soul and become beloved in the realm of the Sun, the Supreme Father of the Gods. (1)

त॒नूष्टे॑ वाजिन्त॒न्वं१॒॑ नय॑न्ती वा॒मम॒स्मभ्यं॒ धातु॒ शर्म॒ तुभ्य॑म् । अह्रु॑तो म॒हो ध॒रुणा॑य दे॒वान्दि॒वी॑व॒ ज्योतिः॒ स्वमा मि॑मीयाः ॥ (२)
हे वाजी! तुम्हारे शरीर को अपने में मिलाती हुई यह धरती तुम्हारे और हमारे दोनों के लिए कल्याण करे. तुम अपने स्थान से पतित न होकर ज्योति धारण करने के लिए देवों और सवर्ग में स्थित सूर्य के साथ अपनी आत्मा को मिला दो. (२)
O Vaji! May this earth, merging your body into itself, do good to both you and us. Do not degenerate from your place, but mix your soul with the gods and the sun in the square to hold the light. (2)

वा॒ज्य॑सि॒ वाजि॑नेना सुवे॒नीः सु॑वि॒तः स्तोमं॑ सुवि॒तो दिवं॑ गाः । सु॒वि॒तो धर्म॑ प्रथ॒मानु॑ स॒त्या सु॑वि॒तो दे॒वान्सु॑वि॒तोऽनु॒ पत्म॑ ॥ (३)
हे पुत्र! तुम अन्नरस से शक्तिशाली एवं सुंदर हो. तुम अपने स्तोत्र की प्रेरणा से स्तोत्रसंबंधी देव के समीप स्वर्ग में जाओ. तुम अपने द्वारा संपादित, प्रमुख एवं सच्चे फल वाले धर्म का अनुगमन करो. तुम इंद्रादि देवों और सूर्य का अनुगमन करो. (३)
O son! You are stronger and more beautiful than Anaras. You go to heaven near the Psalmist God by the inspiration of your psalm. Follow the religion you have edited, the dominant and the true fruit. You follow the indradi devas and the sun. (3)

म॒हि॒म्न ए॑षां पि॒तर॑श्च॒नेशि॑रे दे॒वा दे॒वेष्व॑दधु॒रपि॒ क्रतु॑म् । सम॑विव्यचुरु॒त यान्यत्वि॑षु॒रैषां॑ त॒नूषु॒ नि वि॑विशुः॒ पुनः॑ ॥ (४)
देवत्व को प्राप्त हमारे पितरों ने देवों की महिमा प्राप्त की एवं देवों के साथ यज्ञकार्य पूर्ण किए. जो तेजस्वी वस्तुएं हैं, वे सब उनके साथ मिल गई. पितर देवों के शरीर में प्रवेश कर गए हैं. (४)
Our pitars (ancestors) who attained divinity gained the glory of the gods and completed the yajna deeds with the gods. they all got along with the majestic things. The pitars have entered the bodies of the gods. (4)

सहो॑भि॒र्विश्वं॒ परि॑ चक्रमू॒ रजः॒ पूर्वा॒ धामा॒न्यमि॑ता॒ मिमा॑नाः । त॒नूषु॒ विश्वा॒ भुव॑ना॒ नि ये॑मिरे॒ प्रासा॑रयन्त पुरु॒ध प्र॒जा अनु॑ ॥ (५)
हमारे पितरों ने अपनी शक्तियों से सारे लोकों की परिक्रमा की है तथा उन स्थानों पर गए हैं, जहां दूसरे नहीं जा पाते. उन्होंने अपने शरीर में सभी लोकों को नियमित किया है एवं प्रजाओं पर अपना प्रभुत्व अनेक प्रकार से स्थापित किया है. (५)
Our pitars (ancestors) have gone all the realms with their own powers and have gone to places where others cannot go. Pitars have regularized all the realms and established their dominion over the people in many ways. (5)

द्विधा॑ सू॒नवोऽसु॑रं स्व॒र्विद॒मास्था॑पयन्त तृ॒तीये॑न॒ कर्म॑णा । स्वां प्र॒जां पि॒तरः॒ पित्र्यं॒ सह॒ आव॑रेष्वदधु॒स्तन्तु॒मात॑तम् ॥ (६)
आदित्य के पुत्र देवों ने प्रजा उत्पत्तिरूप तीसरे कर्म द्वारा शक्तिशाली एवं स्वर्गज्ञाता आदित्य को दो प्रकार से स्थापित किया था. हमारे पितरों ने अपनी संतान को उत्पन्न करके उनके शरीर में पैतृक बल स्थापित किया. उन्होंने चिरस्थायी वंश स्थापित किया. (६)
Aditya's son Devas had established the powerful and heavenly Aditya in two ways by the third karma of praja genesis. Our fathers created their offspring and established the parental force in their bodies. He established a lasting dynasty. (6)

ना॒वा न क्षोदः॑ प्र॒दिशः॑ पृथि॒व्याः स्व॒स्तिभि॒रति॑ दु॒र्गाणि॒ विश्वा॑ । स्वां प्र॒जां बृ॒हदु॑क्थो महि॒त्वाव॑रेष्वदधा॒दा परे॑षु ॥ (७)
मनुष्य नाव से नदी पार करने के समान धरती की विभिन्न दिशाओं का अतिक्रमण करते हैं. लोग कल्याण द्वारा जिस प्रकार सभी विपत्तियों के पार जाते हैं, उसी प्रकार बृहदुक्थ ऋषि ने अपनी शक्ति से अपने पुत्र को समीपवर्ती एवं दूरवर्ती पदार्थो में स्थापित किया. (७)
Humans encroach on different directions of the earth like crossing the river by boat. Just as people go through all adversities through well-being, the sage Brihaduktha with his power established his son in nearby and distant substances. (7)
