ऋग्वेद (मंडल 3)
स॒द्यो ह॑ जा॒तो वृ॑ष॒भः क॒नीनः॒ प्रभ॑र्तुमाव॒दन्ध॑सः सु॒तस्य॑ । सा॒धोः पि॑ब प्रतिका॒मं यथा॑ ते॒ रसा॑शिरः प्रथ॒मं सो॒म्यस्य॑ ॥ (१)
जलवर्षक, तुरंत उत्पन्न एवं कमनीय इंद्र हवि-सहित सोमरस धारण करने वाले यजमान की रक्षा करें. हे इंद्र! समय-समय पर सोमपान की इच्छा होने पर तुम सब देवों से पहले ही गोदुग्ध-मिश्रित सोम पिओ. (१)
Protect the host holding the Somras with water year, the immediately generated and commissible Indra Havi. O Indra! From time to time, if you desire sompan, drink the god-mixed mons before all the gods. (1)

यज्जाय॑था॒स्तदह॑रस्य॒ कामें॒ऽशोः पी॒यूष॑मपिबो गिरि॒ष्ठाम् । तं ते॑ मा॒ता परि॒ योषा॒ जनि॑त्री म॒हः पि॒तुर्दम॒ आसि॑ञ्च॒दग्रे॑ ॥ (२)
हे इंद्र! जिस दिन तुमने जन्म लिया, उसी दिन तुमने प्यास लगने पर पर्वतों पर उत्पन्न होने वाली सोमलता का ताजा रस पिया था. तुम्हारे महान् पिता के घर में तुम्हें जन्म देने वाली युवती माता ने दूध पिलाने से पहले तुम्हें सोमरस पिलाया था. (२)
O Indra! On the same day that you were born, you drank the fresh juice of somalata that originated on the mountains when you were thirsty. The young mother who gave birth to you in your great father's house gave you somers before feeding you milk. (2)

उ॒प॒स्थाय॑ मा॒तर॒मन्न॑मैट्ट ति॒ग्मम॑पश्यद॒भि सोम॒मूधः॑ । प्र॒या॒वय॑न्नचर॒द्गृत्सो॑ अ॒न्यान्म॒हानि॑ चक्रे पुरु॒धप्र॑तीकः ॥ (३)
इंद्र ने माता के समीप जाकर अन्न मांगा. इंद्र ने माता के स्तनों में दूध के रूप में वर्तमान तेजस्वी सोम को देखा. इंद्र शत्रुओं को अपने-अपने स्थानों से गिराते हुए घूमने लगे एवं अनेक प्रकार से अंग संचालन करके वृत्रहनन आदि महान् कर्म किए. (३)
Indra went to his mother and asked for food. Indra looked at the present stunning Som as milk in the breasts of the mother. Indra began to move around, dropping the enemies from their places and did great deeds like vrithrahanan etc. by conducting the limbs in many ways. (3)

उ॒ग्रस्तु॑रा॒षाळ॒भिभू॑त्योजा यथाव॒शं त॒न्वं॑ चक्र ए॒षः । त्वष्टा॑र॒मिन्द्रो॑ ज॒नुषा॑भि॒भूया॒मुष्या॒ सोम॑मपिबच्च॒मूषु॑ ॥ (४)
शत्रुओं को भयप्रद, शीघ्रतापूर्वक शत्रुओं को हराने वाले एवं शत्रुओं को हराने वाले पराक्रम से युक्त इंद्र ने अपने शरीर को इच्छानुसार विविध प्रकार का बनाया, अपनी शक्ति से त्वष्टा नामक असुर को हराया एवं चमसों में रखे हुए सोम को चुरा कर पिया. (४)
Indra, who feared the enemies, who quickly defeated the enemies and had the might to defeat the enemies, made his body of various kinds at will, defeated the asura named Takshata with his power and stole the Som kept in the spoon. (4)

शु॒नं हु॑वेम म॒घवा॑न॒मिन्द्र॑म॒स्मिन्भरे॒ नृत॑मं॒ वाज॑सातौ । शृ॒ण्वन्त॑मु॒ग्रमू॒तये॑ स॒मत्सु॒ घ्नन्तं॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ सं॒जितं॒ धना॑नाम् ॥ (५)
धन-प्राप्ति वाले संग्राम में उत्साहपूर्ण, धनवान्, सकल विश्व के नेता, स्तुतियां सुनने वाले, शत्रुओं को भयंकर, युद्ध में राक्षसविनाशकारी एवं शत्रुओं के धन के विजेता इंद्र को हम रक्षा के लिए बुलाते हैं. (५)
We call indra, the leader of the world, the leader of the world, the leader of the world, the hearer of praises, the fierce of enemies, the demon-destroyer in the war and the conqueror of the wealth of the enemies. (5)
