ऋग्वेद (मंडल 3)
उ॒षसः॒ पूर्वा॒ अध॒ यद्व्यू॒षुर्म॒हद्वि ज॑ज्ञे अ॒क्षरं॑ प॒दे गोः । व्र॒ता दे॒वाना॒मुप॒ नु प्र॒भूष॑न्म॒हद्दे॒वाना॑मसुर॒त्वमेक॑म् ॥ (१)
पूर्ववर्तिनी उषा जब समाप्त होती है, तब अविनाशी सूर्य नामक महान् ज्योति आकाश अथवा सागर से उत्पन्न होती है. इसके बाद देव-संबंधी कर्म आरंभ हो जाते हैं एवं यजमान देवों के समीप उपस्थित होते हैं. देवों का प्रमुख बल एक ही है. (१)
When the predecessor Usha ends, the great light named Indestructible Sun originates from the sky or the ocean. After this, the deva-related deeds begin and the hosts are present near the devas. The principal force of the gods is the same. (1)

मो षू णो॒ अत्र॑ जुहुरन्त दे॒वा मा पूर्वे॑ अग्ने पि॒तरः॑ पद॒ज्ञाः । पु॒रा॒ण्योः सद्म॑नोः के॒तुर॒न्तर्म॒हद्दे॒वाना॑मसुर॒त्वमेक॑म् ॥ (२)
हे अग्नि! इस समय देवगण एवं कर्मानुसार देवपद पाने वाले पुरातन पितर हमारे कर्म में बाधा न डालें. पुरातन धरती-आकाश के मध्य उदित एवं यज्ञ का संकेत करने वाले सूर्य हमारी हिंसा न करें. देवों का प्रमुख बल एक ही है. (२)
O agni! At this time, the ancient fathers who get the devpada according to the devagana and karma should not hinder our karma. Do not let the suns that rise between the ancient earth and the sky and indicate the yagna do us violence. The principal force of the gods is the same. (2)

वि मे॑ पुरु॒त्रा प॑तयन्ति॒ कामाः॒ शम्यच्छा॑ दीद्ये पू॒र्व्याणि॑ । समि॑द्धे अ॒ग्नावृ॒तमिद्व॑देम म॒हद्दे॒वाना॑मसुर॒त्वमेक॑म् ॥ (३)
हे अग्नि! मेरी अनेक अभिलाषाएं इधर-उधर जाती हैं. अग्निष्टोम आदि के बहाने हम पुरानी स्तुतियां प्रकाशित करते हैं. यज्ञ के निमित्त अग्नि के प्रज्वलित होने पर हम सत्य बोलेंगे. देवों का प्रमुख बल एक ही है. (३)
O agni! Many of my desires go around. We publish old hymns on the pretext of agnishtoma etc. We will speak the truth when the agni is ignited for the sake of yajna. The principal force of the gods is the same. (3)

स॒मा॒नो राजा॒ विभृ॑तः पुरु॒त्रा शये॑ श॒यासु॒ प्रयु॑तो॒ वनानु॑ । अ॒न्या व॒त्सं भर॑ति॒ क्षेति॑ मा॒ता म॒हद्दे॒वाना॑मसुर॒त्वमेक॑म् ॥ (४)
दीप्यमान एक ही अग्नि यज्ञ के निमित्त अनेक स्थानों पर व्यवहार में लाए जाते हैं. वे वेदी पर सोते हैं एवं काष्ठों से बनी अरणि में विभक्त होकर निवास करते हैं. इनके धरती- आकाशरूपी माता-पिता में से एक इन्हें उत्पन्न होते ही भरण करता है एवं दूसरी माता केवल धारण करती है. देवों का प्रमुख बल एक ही है. (४)
The lights are put into practice in many places for the sake of the same agni yajna. They sleep on the altar and live in a wooden aranis divided into them. One of their earth-celestial parents fills them as soon as they are born and the other mother only holds them. The principal force of the gods is the same. (4)

आ॒क्षित्पूर्वा॒स्वप॑रा अनू॒रुत्स॒द्यो जा॒तासु॒ तरु॑णीष्व॒न्तः । अ॒न्तर्व॑तीः सुवते॒ अप्र॑वीता म॒हद्दे॒वाना॑मसुर॒त्वमेक॑म् ॥ (५)
अग्नि सूखे प्राचीन वृक्षों में वर्तमान हैं, नए वृक्षों में उत्पत्ति क्रम से रहते हैं तथा इसी समय उत्पन्न पल्लवित वनस्पतियों में अंतर्भूत होते हैं, ओषधियां किसी अन्य के गर्भाधान के बिना केवल अग्नि के संसर्ग से गर्भवती होकर पुष्प, फल आदि को जन्म देती हैं. देवों का प्रमुख बल एक ही है. (५)
Fire dried are present in ancient trees, live in the order of origin in the new trees and are embedded in the plants produced at the same time, the herbs give birth to flowers, fruits, etc., without the conception of anyone else, only by becoming pregnant with the contact of agni. The principal force of the gods is the same. (5)

श॒युः प॒रस्ता॒दध॒ नु द्वि॑मा॒ताब॑न्ध॒नश्च॑रति व॒त्स एकः॑ । मि॒त्रस्य॒ ता वरु॑णस्य व्र॒तानि॑ म॒हद्दे॒वाना॑मसुर॒त्वमेक॑म् ॥ (६)
धरती-आकाशरूपी माता-पिता के पुत्र सूर्य छिपते समय पश्चिम दिशा में सोते हैं. उदयकाल में वे ही सूर्य बंधनरहित होकर आकाश में चलते हैं. यह सारा काम मित्र और वरुण का है. देवों का प्रमुख बल एक ही है. (६)
The sons of earth-celestial parents sleep in the west direction while hiding the sun. In the rising period, they walk in the sky without sun bondage. All this work belongs to a friend and Varun. The principal force of the gods is the same. (6)

द्वि॒मा॒ता होता॑ वि॒दथे॑षु स॒म्राळन्वग्रं॒ चर॑ति॒ क्षेति॑ बु॒ध्नः । प्र रण्या॑नि रण्य॒वाचो॑ भरन्ते म॒हद्दे॒वाना॑मसुर॒त्वमेक॑म् ॥ (७)
दो लोकों के बनाने वाले, यज्ञ के होता एवं यज्ञ में भली-भांति सुशोभित अग्नि सूर्यरूप से, आकाश में घूमते हैं एवं सभी कर्मो के मूलकारण बनकर धरती पर रहते हैं. मधुर वाणी वाले स्तोता उनके लिए मधुर स्तोत्र बोलते हैं. देवों का प्रमुख बल एक ही है. (७)
The makers of the two lokas, the yajna and the well-adorned agni in the yajna, revolve in the sun, in the sky, and live on the earth as the root cause of all the deeds. Hymns with sweet voices speak sweet hymns for them. The principal force of the gods is the same. (7)

शूर॑स्येव॒ युध्य॑तो अन्त॒मस्य॑ प्रती॒चीनं॑ ददृशे॒ विश्व॑मा॒यत् । अ॒न्तर्म॒तिश्च॑रति नि॒ष्षिधं॒ गोर्म॒हद्दे॒वाना॑मसुर॒त्वमेक॑म् ॥ (८)
समीप में वर्तमान अग्नि के सामने आने वाले सभी प्राणी इस प्रकार पीछे भागते हैं, जैसे युद्ध करने वाले शूर के सामने से कायर लोग भागते हैं. सबके द्वारा जाने गए अग्नि जल का नाश करने वाली ज्वाला अपने भीतर धारण करते हैं. देवों का प्रमुख बल एक ही है. (८)
All the creatures that come in front of the present agni nearby run behind in this way, just as the cowards run from the front of the fighting knights. The flames that destroy the agni water known by all hold within themselves. The principal force of the gods is the same. (8)
