ऋग्वेद (मंडल 5)
आ या॒ह्यद्रि॑भिः सु॒तं सोमं॑ सोमपते पिब । वृष॑न्निन्द्र॒ वृष॑भिर्वृत्रहन्तम ॥ (१)
हे इंद्र! तुम हमारे यज्ञ में आओ. हे सोमपति इंद्र! पत्थरों से कूटकर निचोड़े गए सोम को पिओ. हे कामवर्षी एवं शत्रुओं के अतिशय हंता इंद्र वर्षाकारी मरुतों के साथ तुम सोमरस पिओ. (१)
O Indra! You come to our yajna. O Sompati Indra! Drink the somp that has been squeezed with stones. O ye ye drink somras with the rain-fed maruts, O celestial and the most of the enemies. (1)

वृषा॒ ग्रावा॒ वृषा॒ मदो॒ वृषा॒ सोमो॑ अ॒यं सु॒तः । वृष॑न्निन्द्र॒ वृष॑भिर्वृत्रहन्तम ॥ (२)
सोमरस निचोड़ने का साधनरूप पत्थर, सोमरस पीने का नशा एवं यह निचुड़ा हुआ सोम सब आनंद देने वाले हैं. हे कामवर्षी एवं शत्रुओं के अतिशय हंता इंद्र! तुम वर्षा करने वाले मरुतों के साथ सोमरस पिओ. (२)
The stone as a means of squeezing somras, the intoxication of drinking somras and this dull mon are all joyous. O errands and the most ant of the enemies, Indra! You drink somras with the rainy maruts. (2)

हे वज्रधारी एवं कामवर्षी इंद्र! सोमरस पिलाने वाले हम विचित्र रक्षाओं के कारण तुम्हें बुलाते हैं. हे कामवर्षी एवं शत्रुओं के अतिशय हंता इंद्र! तुम वर्षा करने वाले मरुतों के साथ सोमरस पिओ. (३)
O Vajradhari and Karyati Indra! We who drink somras call you because of the bizarre defenses. O errands and the most ant of the enemies, Indra! You drink somras with the rainy maruts. (3)

ऋ॒जी॒षी व॒ज्री वृ॑ष॒भस्तु॑रा॒षाट् छु॒ष्मी राजा॑ वृत्र॒हा सो॑म॒पावा॑ । यु॒क्त्वा हरि॑भ्या॒मुप॑ यासद॒र्वाङ्माध्यं॑दिने॒ सव॑ने मत्स॒दिन्द्रः॑ ॥ (४)
इंद्र सोमरस के स्वामी, वज्रधारण करने वाले, कामवर्षी शत्रुहननकर्त्ता, शक्तिशाली, राजा वृत्र को मारने वाले व सोमरस पीने वाले हैं. वे हरि नामक घोड़ों को अपने रथ में जोड़कर हमारे सामने आवें एवं माध्यंदिन सवन में सोमरस पीकर प्रसन्न हों. (४)
Indra is the lord of the Somaras, the bearer of the thunderbolt, the powerful enemy slayer, the one who kills the king Vritra and is the drinker of the Somaras. He should come before us by adding the horses named Hari to his chariot and be happy after drinking somrus in the middle of the season. (4)

यत्त्वा॑ सूर्य॒ स्व॑र्भानु॒स्तम॒सावि॑ध्यदासु॒रः । अक्षे॑त्रवि॒द्यथा॑ मु॒ग्धो भुव॑नान्यदीधयुः ॥ (५)
हे सूर्य! जब स्वर्भानु नामक असुर ने तुम्हें माया द्वारा निर्मित अंधकार से ढक लिया था, तब सभी लोक अंधकारपूर्ण हो गए थे. वहां के निवासी मूढ़ होकर अपने-अपने स्थान को भी नहीं जान पा रहे थे. (५)
O sun! When the asura named Swarbhanu covered you with the darkness created by Maya, all the places became dark. The residents there were still and could not even know their place. (5)

स्व॑र्भानो॒रध॒ यदि॑न्द्र मा॒या अ॒वो दि॒वो वर्त॑माना अ॒वाह॑न् । गू॒ळ्हं सूर्यं॒ तम॒साप॑व्रतेन तु॒रीये॑ण॒ ब्रह्म॑णाविन्द॒दत्रिः॑ ॥ (६)
हे इंद्र! जब तुमने सूर्य के नीचे वाले स्थान में फैली हुई स्वर्भानु की दिव्य माया को दूर भगा दिया था, तब कर्मो में बाधक अंधकार द्वारा ढके हुए सूर्य को अत्रि ऋषि ने चार ऋचाएं बोलकर प्राप्त किया था. (६)
O Indra! When you drove away the divine maya of Swarbhanu, which was spread in the place under the sun, the sun covered by darkness that hindered the karmas was received by the sage Atri by speaking four verses. (6)

मा मामि॒मं तव॒ सन्त॑मत्र इर॒स्या द्रु॒ग्धो भि॒यसा॒ नि गा॑रीत् । त्वं मि॒त्रो अ॑सि स॒त्यरा॑धा॒स्तौ मे॒हाव॑तं॒ वरु॑णश्च॒ राजा॑ ॥ (७)
सूर्य ने अत्रि से कहा-“हे अत्रि! इस प्रकार की अवस्था में पड़ा मैं तुम्हारा सेवक हूं. इस अन्न की इच्छा के कारण द्रोह करने वाले असुर भयजनक अंधकार द्वारा मुझे न निगल लें. तुम मेरे मित्र एवं सत्य का पालन करने वाले हो. तुम एवं वरुण मेरी रक्षा करो.” (७)
The sun said to Atri, "O Atri! I am your servant in this kind of state. Do not swallow me by the fearsome darkness of the asuras who are inciting hatred because of the desire for this food. You are my friend and the one who follows the truth. You and Varun protect me." (7)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 5)
ग्राव्णो॑ ब्र॒ह्मा यु॑युजा॒नः स॑प॒र्यन्की॒रिणा॑ दे॒वान्नम॑सोप॒शिक्ष॑न् । अत्रिः॒ सूर्य॑स्य दि॒वि चक्षु॒राधा॒त्स्व॑र्भानो॒रप॑ मा॒या अ॑घुक्षत् ॥ (८)
ब्राह्मण अत्रि ने सूर्य को उपदेश दिया, इंद्र के निमित्त सोम निचोड़ने हेतु पत्थरों को आपस में रगड़ा. स्तोत्रों द्वारा देवों की सेवा एवं अपने मंत्रों के बल से सूर्यरूपी नेत्र को अंतरिक्ष में स्थापित किया. अत्रि ने स्वर्भानु की माया को दूर कर दिया. (८)
Brahmin Atri preached to the sun, rubbing stones together to squeeze the soma for Indra's sake. The hymns served the gods and with the force of their mantras installed the sun-like eye in space. Atri removed Swarbhanu's maya. (8)
