ऋग्वेद (मंडल 9)
ध॒र्ता दि॒वः प॑वते॒ कृत्व्यो॒ रसो॒ दक्षो॑ दे॒वाना॑मनु॒माद्यो॒ नृभिः॑ । हरिः॑ सृजा॒नो अत्यो॒ न सत्व॑भि॒र्वृथा॒ पाजां॑सि कृणुते न॒दीष्वा ॥ (१)
सबको धारण करने वाले, शोधन के योग्य, रसात्मक देवों के बल, ऋत्विजों द्वारा स्तुति योग्य, हरे रंग वाले, प्राणियों द्वारा उत्पन्न एवं सीखे हुए घोड़े के समान वेग वाले सोम स्वर्ग से टपकते हैं. (१)
The mons, who hold all, worthy of purification, are worthy of purification, the force of the juicy gods, praiseworthy by the ritvizs, the green ones, the ones born and learned by beings, the horses with the same velocity as the ones that are learned, drip from heaven. (1)

शूरो॒ न ध॑त्त॒ आयु॑धा॒ गभ॑स्त्योः॒ स्व१॒ः॑ सिषा॑सन्रथि॒रो गवि॑ष्टिषु । इन्द्र॑स्य॒ शुष्म॑मी॒रय॑न्नप॒स्युभि॒रिन्दु॑र्हिन्वा॒नो अ॑ज्यते मनी॒षिभिः॑ ॥ (२)
सोम वीर पुरुष के समान अपने दोनों हाथों में आयुध धारण करते हैं. सोम गायों को खोजने के संबंध में स्वर्ग में जाने की इच्छा से रथ वाले बने थे. इंद्र के बल को प्रेरित करते हुए सोम यज्ञकर्म के इच्छुक बुद्धिमानों द्वारा भेजे जाकर गाय के दूध में मिलाए जाते हैं. (२)
Som veer holds the armament in both his hands like a male. Som was made of charioteers with the desire to go to heaven in connection with finding cows. Motivating the force of Indra, Som is sent by the wise who want to perform yajnakarma and mixed with cow's milk. (2)

इन्द्र॑स्य सोम॒ पव॑मान ऊ॒र्मिणा॑ तवि॒ष्यमा॑णो ज॒ठरे॒ष्वा वि॑श । प्र णः॑ पिन्व वि॒द्युद॒भ्रेव॒ रोद॑सी धि॒या न वाजा॒ँ उप॑ मासि॒ शश्व॑तः ॥ (३)
हे पवमान सोम! तुम बढ़ते हुए अपनी बहुत सी धाराओं द्वारा इंद्र के पेट में घुसो. बिजली जिस प्रकार बादलों का दोहन करती है, उसी प्रकार तुम अपने कर्मो द्वारा द्यावा- पृथिवी का दोहन करके हमें अधिक अन्न देते हो. (३)
O Pawman Mon! You enter Indra's belly by growing your lot of streams. Just as electricity exploits the clouds, you give us more food by exploiting the earth through your deeds. (3)

विश्व॑स्य॒ राजा॑ पवते स्व॒र्दृश॑ ऋ॒तस्य॑ धी॒तिमृ॑षि॒षाळ॑वीवशत् । यः सूर्य॒स्यासि॑रेण मृ॒ज्यते॑ पि॒ता म॑ती॒नामस॑मष्टकाव्यः ॥ (४)
जगत् के राजा सोम निचुड़ते हैं. स्वर्ग को देखने वाले इंद्र के कर्म ऋषियों से भी उत्तम है. सोम ने इंद्र के यज्ञकर्म की कामना की. सोम सूर्य की किरणों द्वारा शुद्ध होते हैं. हमारी स्तुतियों के पालनकर्ता सोम का कर्म कवियों से उत्कृष्ट है. (४)
The king of the world, Som, is nichudata. Indra's karma who sees heaven is better than that of the sages. Som wished for Indra's yajnakarma. Som is purified by the rays of the sun. The karma of Som, the follower of our praises, is superior to that of the poets. (4)

वृषे॑व यू॒था परि॒ कोश॑मर्षस्य॒पामु॒पस्थे॑ वृष॒भः कनि॑क्रदत् । स इन्द्रा॑य पवसे मत्स॒रिन्त॑मो॒ यथा॒ जेषा॑म समि॒थे त्वोत॑यः ॥ (५)
हे अभिलाषापूरक सोम! जिस प्रकार बैल गायों के समूह में जाता है, उसी प्रकार तुम अंतरिक्ष में रहकर गर्जन करते हो एवं द्रोणकलश में आते हो. तुम अत्यंत नशीले बनकर इंद्र के लिए निचुड़ते हो. तुम्हारे द्वारा रक्षित होकर हम युद्ध में विजयी बनें. (५)
He is a wishy Mon! Just as the bull goes into a group of cows, so you stay in space and roar and come to Dronakalash. You become extremely intoxicating and leave for Indra. Protected by you, let us be victorious in the war. (5)
