यजुर्वेद (अध्याय 12)
उ॒शिक् पा॑व॒को अ॑र॒तिः सु॑मे॒धा मर्त्ये॑ष्व॒ग्निर॒मृतो॒ नि धा॑यि। इय॑र्त्ति धू॒मम॑रु॒षं भरि॑भ्र॒दुच्छु॒क्रेण॑ शो॒चिषा॒ द्यामिन॑क्षन् ॥ (२४)
अग्नि इच्छा करने योग्य, पवित्र, दुष्टों के प्रति प्रेमहीन और श्रेष्ठ बुद्धि बाले हैं. वे अमर व मनुष्यों के इच्छापूरक हैं. उन का धुआं ऊपर की ओर जाता है. वे चमकीले हैं. अग्नि अपनी शोभा स्वर्गलोक तक फैलाते हैं. (२४)
Fire is willing, holy, loveless to the wicked and with superior intelligence. They are immortal and fulfilling the wishes of human beings. Their smoke goes upwards. They are bright. Fire spreads its beauty to heaven. (24)
