अथर्ववेद (कांड 10)
नाम॒ नाम्ना॑ जोहवीति पु॒रा सूर्या॑त्पु॒रोषसः॑ । यद॒जः प्र॑थ॒मं सं॑ब॒भूव॒ स ह॒ तत्स्व॒राज्य॑मियाय॒ यस्मा॒न्नान्यत्पर॒मस्ति॑ भू॒तम् ॥ (३१)
सूर्योदय से पूर्व एवं उषा काल से पूर्व श्रद्धालु जन नाम के द्वारा नाम का हवन करते हैं अर्थात् परमात्मा के नाम के द्वारा उस के महत्त्व का वर्णन करते हैं. इस प्रकार प्रयत्नशील जो अजन्मा आत्मा अर्थात् भक्त परमात्मा के साथ संयोग प्राप्त करता है, वह स्वराज्य को प्राप्त करता है अर्थात् जन्ममरण के बंधन से मुक्ति पा जाता है. उस परमात्मा की अपेक्षा कोई तत्त्व श्रेष्ठ नहीं है. Before sunrise and before the Usha period, devotees perform havan of the name through the name of the people, that is, they describe the importance of it through the name of God. In this way, the unborn soul i.e. the devotee who attains a coincidence with God, attains Swarajya i.e. gets rid of the bondage of birth. No element is superior to that God. (31)
