अथर्ववेद (कांड 10)
त॒न्त्रमेके॑ युव॒ती विरू॑पे अभ्या॒क्रामं॑ वयतः॒ षण्म॑यूखम् । प्रान्या तन्तूं॑स्ति॒रते॑ ध॒त्ते अ॒न्या नाप॑ वृञ्जाते॒ न ग॑मातो॒ अन्त॑म् ॥ (४२)
एक दूसरे से भिन्न रूप वाली दो युवतियां लगातार घूमती हैं तथा छः खूटियों वाला एक ताना पूरती हैं. उन में से एक धागों को फैलाती है और दूसरी उन्हें संभाल कर रखती है अर्थात् समेटती है. वे दोनों न विश्राम करती हैं और न अंत को प्राप्त होती हैं. तात्पर्य यह है कि रात और दिन ही वे युवतियां हैं. छ: ऋतुएं छः खूंटे तथा समय ही अनंग धागा है. Two young women with different forms move around continuously and fill a warp with six pegs. One of them spreads the threads and the other keeps them handy i.e. wraps them up. They both do not rest or attain the end. This means that night and day are young women. Six seasons six pegs and time is the anang thread. (42)
