अथर्ववेद (कांड 13)
हि॒मं घ्रं॒सं चा॒धाय॒ यूपा॑न्कृ॒त्वा पर्व॑तान् । व॒र्षाज्या॑व॒ग्नी ई॑जाते॒ रोहि॑तस्य स्व॒र्विदः॑ ॥ (४७)
सूर्यरूपी स्वर्ग को पाने की अभिलाषा वाले पुरुष हिम और ग्रीष्म रूपी दो अग्नियों का आधान कर के पर्वतों को यूप अर्थात् लकड़ी का खंभा बनाते हैं. वर्षा ऋतु रूपी घृत प्राप्त करने के लिए ये दोनों अग्नि तथा आज्य देव के हेतु यज्ञ करते हैं. (४७)
Men who desire to attain the sun-like heaven make the mountains a cannon, a wooden pillar, by placing two agnis of snow and summer. To get the ghee of the rainy season, both of them perform yagya for agni and ajya dev. (47)
