अथर्ववेद (कांड 15)
न पि॑तृ॒याणं॒पन्थां॑ जानाति॒ न दे॑व॒यान॑म् ॥ (९)
जो इस प्रकार के विद्वान् व्रतधारी की आज्ञा के बिना हवन करता है, वह न पितृयान मार्ग को जानता है और न देवयान मार्ग का उसे ज्ञान होता है. (९)
One who performs havan without the permission of such a learned fasting person does not know the Pitrayana path nor does he know the Devayana path. (9)
