अथर्ववेद (कांड 18)
आ प्रच्य॑वेथा॒मप॒ तन्मृ॑जेथां॒ यद्वा॑मभि॒भा अत्रो॒चुः । अ॒स्मादेत॑म॒घ्न्यौतद्वशी॑यो दा॒तुः पि॒तृष्वि॒हभो॑जनौ॒ मम॑ ॥ (४९)
हे प्रेत का वहन करने वाले बैलो! तुम हमारे सामने ही इस गाड़ी से अलग हो जाओ तथा प्रेत की सवारी करने से संबंधित निंदा वचनों से छूट जाओ. तुम इस गाड़ी सहित हमारे पास आओ. तुम्हारा आना शुभ हो. इस पितृमेध यज्ञ में पितरों के लिए हवि देने वाले बनो. (४९)
