अथर्ववेद (कांड 19)
परी॒दं वासो॑ अधिथाः स्व॒स्तयेऽभू॑र्वापी॒नाम॑भिशस्ति॒पा उ॑ । श॒तं च॒ जीव॑ श॒रदः॑ पुरू॒चीर्वसू॑नि॒ चारु॒र्वि भ॑जासि॒ जीव॑न् ॥ (६)
हे शांतिकर्ता यजमान! तुम ने यह वस्त्र क्षेम अर्थात् पात्र की रक्षा के लिए धारण किया है. इस वस्त्र को धारण कर के तुम गायों को चमड़ा उतारने के भय से रक्षा करने वाले बनो. बुम अनेक प्रकार के पुत्रपौत्रों को प्राप्त कराने वाली सौ शरद् ऋतुओं तक जीवित रहो. सौ वर्ष तक जीवित रहने वाले तुम सुंदर वस्त्र से सुशोभित रहो तथा धनों को पुत्र, मित्र आदि में विभाजित करो. O peace-maker host! You have worn this garment to protect the vessel. By wearing this cloth, you become the protector of cows from the fear of skinning. Bum live to a hundred autumns receiving many types of sons and grandsons. Those who live for a hundred years, you should be adorned with beautiful clothes and divide the wealth into sons, friends, etc. (6)
