अथर्ववेद (कांड 3)
दक्षि॑णा॒ दिगिन्द्रो॑ऽधिपति॒स्तिर॑श्चिराजी रक्षि॒ता पि॒तर॒ इष॑वः । तेभ्यो॒ नमो॑ऽधिपतिभ्यो॒ नमो॑ रक्षि॒तृभ्यो॒ नम॒ इषु॑भ्यो॒ नम॑ एभ्यो अस्तु । यो॒स्मान्द्वेष्टि॒ यं व॒यं द्वि॒ष्मस्तं वो॒ जम्भे॑ दध्मः ॥ (२)
दक्षिण दिशा हम पर कृपा करे. इंद्र इस के अधिपति हैं. टेठ़ेमेढ़े चलने वाले सर्प इस दिशा के रक्षक हैं. पितर इस दिशा के दुष्टों का निग्रह करने वाले आयुध हैं. इस के अधिपति इंद्र को, रक्षक टेठ़ेमेढ़े चलने वाले सर्प को और आयुध रूप पितरों को मेरा नमस्कार प्रसन्न करने वाला हो. जो शत्रु मुझे बाधा पहुंचाता है अथवा मैं जिन से द्वेष रखता हूं, हे इंद्र आदि देवो! मैं उसे तुम्हारे भक्षण के लिए तुम्हारी दाढ़ में रखता हूं. May my greetings be pleased to its overswami Indra, the protector to the serpent walking on the trample and to the ancestors in the form of ordnance.
