न्यू॒३॒॑ षु वाचं॒ प्र म॒हे भ॑रामहे॒ गिर॒ इन्द्रा॑य॒ सद॑ने वि॒वस्व॑तः । नू चि॒द्धि रत्नं॑ सस॒तामि॒वावि॑द॒न्न दु॑ष्टु॒तिर्द्र॑विणो॒देषु॑ शस्यते ॥ (१)
हम महान् इंद्र के लिए शोभन स्तुतियों का प्रयोग करते हैं, वयोंकि परिचर्या करने वाले यजमान के घर में इंद्र की स्तुतियां की जाती हैं. जिस प्रकार चोर सोए हुए लोगों की संपत्ति छीन लेते हैं, उसी प्रकार इंद्र असुरों के धन पर तुरंत अधिकार कर लेते हैं. धन देने वालों के विषय में अनुचित स्तुति नहीं की जाती. (१)
We use shobhan praises for the great Indra, because in the house of the caretaker host, indra is praised. Just as thieves take away the property of the sleeping people, Indra immediately takes possession of the wealth of the asuras. There is no undue praise about those who give money. (1)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
दु॒रो अश्व॑स्य दु॒र इ॑न्द्र॒ गोर॑सि दु॒रो यव॑स्य॒ वसु॑न इ॒नस्पतिः॑ । शि॒क्षा॒न॒रः प्र॒दिवो॒ अका॑मकर्शनः॒ सखा॒ सखि॑भ्य॒स्तमि॒दं गृ॑णीमसि ॥ (२)
हे इंद्र! तुम अश्व, गो एवं जौ आदि धान्य के देने वाले हो. तुम निवास हेतु धन के स्वामी एवं सबके पालक हो. तुम दान के नेता एवं प्राचीन देव हो. तुम हवि देने वाले यजमानों की इच्छाओं को अभिमत फल देकर पूरा करते हो तथा उनके लिए मित्र के समान अत्यंत प्रिय हो. हम इस प्रकार के इंद्र के लिए स्तुति वचनों का प्रयोग करते हैं. (२)
O Indra! You are the giver of food grains like horse, go and barley etc. You are the master of wealth and the guardian of all for residence. You are the leader of charity and the ancient God. You fulfill the wishes of the hosts who give the greetings by giving them the fruits of the favor and are as dear to them as a friend. We use words of praise for this type of Indra. (2)

शची॑व इन्द्र पुरुकृद्द्युमत्तम॒ तवेदि॒दम॒भित॑श्चेकिते॒ वसु॑ । अतः॑ सं॒गृभ्या॑भिभूत॒ आ भ॑र॒ मा त्वा॑य॒तो ज॑रि॒तुः काम॑मूनयीः ॥ (३)
हे इंद्र! तुम प्रज्ञावान् वृत्रवधादि अनेक कमों के कर्ता एवं अतिशय तेजस्वी हो. हम यह जानते हैं कि सर्वत्र वर्तमान धन तुम्हारा है. हे शत्रुनाशक इंद्र! इसलिए हमें धन दो. जो स्तोता तुम्हें चाहते हैं, उनकी अभिलाषा को अपूर्ण मत रहने दो. (३)
O Indra! You are the doer of many shortcomings and very bright. We know that the present wealth everywhere is yours. O enemies Indra! So give us money. Don't let the desire of the psalms you want to remain unfulfilled. (3)

ए॒भिर्द्युभिः॑ सु॒मना॑ ए॒भिरिन्दु॑भिर्निरुन्धा॒नो अम॑तिं॒ गोभि॑र॒श्विना॑ । इन्द्रे॑ण॒ दस्युं॑ द॒रय॑न्त॒ इन्दु॑भिर्यु॒तद्वे॑षसः॒ समि॒षा र॑भेमहि ॥ (४)
हे इंद्र! हमारे द्वारा दिए हुए पुरोडाशादि हव्य एवं सोमरस से प्रसन्न होकर हमें गायों और घोड़ों के साथ-साथ धन भी दो. इस प्रकार हमारी दरिद्रता मिटाकर तुम शोभन मन बन जाओ. इंद्र इस सोमरस के कारण संतुष्ट होकर हमारी सहायता करेंगे तो हम दस्युओं का नाश करके एवं शन्रुओं से छुटकारा पाकर इंद्र के द्वारा दिए हुए अन्न का उपभोग करेंगे. (४)
O Indra! Pleased with the purodasadi havya and somras given by us, give us money along with cows and horses. In this way, by eliminating our poverty, you become a good mind. If Indra will help us by being satisfied with this somras, then we will consume the food given by Indra by destroying the bandits and getting rid of the shanrus. (4)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
समि॑न्द्र रा॒या समि॒षा र॑भेमहि॒ सं वाजे॑भिः पुरुश्च॒न्द्रैर॒भिद्यु॑भिः । सं दे॒व्या प्रम॑त्या वी॒रशु॑ष्मया॒ गोअ॑ग्र॒याश्वा॑वत्या रभेमहि ॥ (५)
हे इंद्र! हम धन और अन्न के साथ-साथ ऐसा बल भी प्राप्त करें, जो बहुतों का आह्णादक एवं दीप्तिमान् हो. शत्रुविनाश में समर्थ तुम्हारी उत्तम बुद्धि हमारी सहायता करे. तुम्हारी बुद्धि स्तोताओं को गाय आदि प्रमुख पशु एवं अश्च प्रदान करे. (५)
O Indra! Let us get money and food as well as a force that is the call of many and the glory. May your best wisdom, capable of annihilating enemies, help us. May your intellects provide the stotas with the major animals and ass, such as cows, etc. (5)

ते त्वा॒ मदा॑ अमद॒न्तानि॒ वृष्ण्या॒ ते सोमा॑सो वृत्र॒हत्ये॑षु सत्पते । यत्का॒रवे॒ दश॑ वृ॒त्राण्य॑प्र॒ति ब॒र्हिष्म॑ते॒ नि स॒हस्रा॑णि ब॒र्हयः॑ ॥ (६)
हे सज्जनों के पालक इंद्र! जिस समय तुमने वृत्र असुर का वध किया, उस समय तुम्हारे मादक मरुद्गण ने तुम्हें प्रमुदित किया था. तुम वर्षा करने में समर्थ हो. जब तुमने शत्रुओं की बाधा को पार करके स्तुतिकर्ता एवं हव्यदाता यजमान के दस हजार उपद्रवो को समाप्त किया था, उस समय चरुपुरोडाशादि हव्य एवं प्रसिद्ध सोमरस ने तुम्हें प्रसन्न किया था. (६)
O lord of the gentlemen Indra! At the time when you killed the Vrithra Asura, your intoxicating deserts made you happy. You are able to rain. When you crossed the barrier of enemies and ended ten thousand mischiefs of the praise-giving and the havyadata host, at that time, charupurodasadi havya and the famous somers pleased you. (6)

यु॒धा युध॒मुप॒ घेदे॑षि धृष्णु॒या पु॒रा पुरं॒ समि॒दं हं॒स्योज॑सा । नम्या॒ यदि॑न्द्र॒ सख्या॑ परा॒वति॑ निब॒र्हयो॒ नमु॑चिं॒ नाम॑ मा॒यिन॑म् ॥ (७)
हे शत्रुध्वंसक इंद्र! तुम सदा युद्धशील रहते हो एवं अपने बल से शत्रुओं के एक नगर के बाद दूसरे का विनाश करते हो. हे इंद्र! तुमने वज्र की सहायता से दूर देश में वर्तमान, प्रसिद्ध, मायावी नमुचि नामक असुर का वध किया था. (७)
O enemy-sounding Indra! You are always warring and by your own strength destroy one city of enemies after another. O Indra! You killed the present, famous, elusive asura named Namuchi in a distant land with the help of the thunderbolt. (7)

त्वं कर॑ञ्जमु॒त प॒र्णयं॑ वधी॒स्तेजि॑ष्ठयातिथि॒ग्वस्य॑ वर्त॒नी । त्वं श॒ता वङ्गृ॑दस्याभिन॒त्पुरो॑ऽनानु॒दः परि॑षूता ऋ॒जिश्व॑ना ॥ (८)
हे इंद्र! तुमने अतिथिग्व नामक राजा की सहायता करने के लिए तेज एवं शत्रुनाशक आयुध से करंज एवं पर्णय नामक असुरों का वध किया था. ऋजिश्वान् नामक राजा ने वंगृद असुर के सौ नगरों को चारों ओर से घेर लिया था. तुमने अकेले ही उन नगरों का विनाश कर दिया था. (८)
O Indra! You killed the asuras named Karanj and Parnaya with a sharp and hostile weapon to help the king named Atishtgava. The king named Rijishwan had surrounded a hundred cities of the Vangrid Asuras from all sides. You alone destroyed those cities. (8)
