ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
त्वं म॒हाँ इ॑न्द्र॒ यो ह॒ शुष्मै॒र्द्यावा॑ जज्ञा॒नः पृ॑थि॒वी अमे॑ धाः । यद्ध॑ ते॒ विश्वा॑ गि॒रय॑श्चि॒दभ्वा॑ भि॒या दृ॒ळ्हासः॑ कि॒रणा॒ नैज॑न् ॥ (१)
हे इंद्र! तुम गुणों की महत्ता में सबसे अधिक हो, वयोंकि तुमने असुरजन्य भय उत्पन्न होते ही जल ग्रहण किया एवं अपने शत्रुशोषक बल द्वारा धरती और आकाश को धारण किया. विश्व में व्याप्त समस्त प्राणी, पर्वत तथा अन्य महान् एवं दृढ़ पदार्थ तुम्हारे भय से उसी प्रकार कांपते हैं, जिस प्रकार आकाश में सूर्य की किरणें कांपती हैं. (१)
O Indra! You are the most important of virtues, because you received water as soon as the fear of the asura arose and possessed the earth and the sky by your hostile force. All the creatures, mountains and other great and strong substances in the world tremble with your fear in the same way as the sun's rays tremble in the sky. (1)

आ यद्धरी॑ इन्द्र॒ विव्र॑ता॒ वेरा ते॒ वज्रं॑ जरि॒ता बा॒ह्वोर्धा॑त् । येना॑विहर्यतक्रतो अ॒मित्रा॒न्पुर॑ इ॒ष्णासि॑ पुरुहूत पू॒र्वीः ॥ (२)
हे इंद्र! जब तुम अपने विविध कर्म वाले घोड़ों को रथ में जोड़ते हो, तभी स्तोता तुम्हारे हाथ में वज्र देता है. हे अनिच्छित कर्म वाले इंद्र! तुम उसी वज्र से शत्रुओं का विध्वंस करते हो. हे बहु यजमानों द्वारा आहूत इंद्र! तुम उसी वज्र द्वारा शत्रुओं के अनेक पुरों का भेदन करते हो. (२)
O Indra! When you add horses with your various deeds to the chariot, only then does the psalm give a thunderbolt in your hand. O Indra with unintelligent deeds! You destroy your enemies with the same thunderbolt. O Indra invoked by many hosts! You penetrate many parts of the enemies through the same thunderbolt. (2)

त्वं स॒त्य इ॑न्द्र धृ॒ष्णुरे॒तान्त्वमृ॑भु॒क्षा नर्य॒स्त्वं षाट् । त्वं शुष्णं॑ वृ॒जने॑ पृ॒क्ष आ॒णौ यूने॒ कुत्सा॑य द्यु॒मते॒ सचा॑हन् ॥ (३)
हे इंद्र! तुम सर्वोत्कृष्ट एवं इन शत्रुओं को हराने वाले हो. तुम ऋभुओं के स्वामी, मानवों के हितकारक एवं शत्रुओं को हराने वाले हो. वीर संहारक एवं शक्तिप्रधान युद्ध में तुमने तेजस्वी एवं युवक कुत्स के सहायक बनकर शुष्ण नामक असुर का वध किया. (३)
O Indra! You are the best and the one who defeats these enemies. You are the master of the sages, the benefactors of human beings and the ones who defeat the enemies. In the war of heroic destruction and power, you killed the asura named Shushna as an assistant to Tejaswi and the young dogs. (3)

त्वं ह॒ त्यदि॑न्द्र चोदीः॒ सखा॑ वृ॒त्रं यद्व॑ज्रिन्वृषकर्मन्नु॒भ्नाः । यद्ध॑ शूर वृषमणः परा॒चैर्वि दस्यू॒ँर्योना॒वकृ॑तो वृथा॒षाट् ॥ (४)
हे वृष्टिकर्ता एवं वज्रयुक्त इंद्र! जिस समय तुमने कुत्स के धन को छीनने वाले शत्रु का वध किया था, हे शन्रुप्रेरक, कामवर्धक एवं सहज ही शत्रुनाशक इंद्र! उस समय तुमने युद्भक्षेत्र में दस्युओं को दूर भगाकर उनका नाश किया था एवं कुत्स की सहायता करके उसे यशस्वी बनाया था. (४)
O Indra, the rain-giver and the thunderbolt! At the time when you killed the enemy who took away the money of the dog, O Shunrupret, the workman and the natural enemy-destroyer Indra! At that time, you drove away the bandits in the battlefield and destroyed them and helped the dogs and made them successful. (4)

त्वं ह॒ त्यदि॒न्द्रारि॑षण्यन्दृ॒ळ्हस्य॑ चि॒न्मर्ता॑ना॒मजु॑ष्टौ । व्य१॒॑स्मदा काष्ठा॒ अर्व॑ते वर्घ॒नेव॑ वज्रिञ्छ्नथिह्य॒मित्रा॑न् ॥ (५)
हे इंद्र! यद्यपि तुम किसी दृढ़ व्यक्ति को हानि पहुंचाना नहीं चाहते हो, फिर भी यदि हम स्तोताओं को शत्रु घेर लेते हैं तो तुम हमारे घोड़ों के चलने के लिए सभी दिशाओं को मुक्त कर देते हो. हे वञ्रधारी इंद्र! कठिन वज्र से हमारे शत्रुओं को मारो. (५)
O Indra! Although you do not want to harm a strong person, if we surround the Psalms with enemies, you free all directions for our horses to walk. O Lord Indra! Kill our enemies with a hard thunderbolt. (5)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
त्वां ह॒ त्यदि॒न्द्रार्ण॑सातौ॒ स्व॑र्मीळ्हे॒ नर॑ आ॒जा ह॑वन्ते । तव॑ स्वधाव इ॒यमा स॑म॒र्य ऊ॒तिर्वाजे॑ष्वत॒साय्या॑ भूत् ॥ (६)
जिस युद्ध में प्रवृत्त होने से लोगों को लाभ और धन मिलने की संभावना होती है, उस में वे सहायता के लिए तुम्हें बुलाते हैं. हे बलशाली! युद्धक्षेत्र में तुम हमारी रक्षा करो. युद्धभूमि में योद्धा तुमसे रक्षा प्राप्त करते हैं. (६)
In the war in which people are likely to get benefits and money from being engaged, they call on you for help. O mighty! You protect us in the battlefield. Warriors in the battlefield receive protection from you. (6)

त्वं ह॒ त्यदि॑न्द्र स॒प्त युध्य॒न्पुरो॑ वज्रिन्पुरु॒कुत्सा॑य दर्दः । ब॒र्हिर्न यत्सु॒दासे॒ वृथा॒ वर्गं॒हो रा॑ज॒न्वरि॑वः पू॒रवे॑ कः ॥ (७)
हे वज्रधारी इंद्र! पुरुकुत्स ऋषि की सहायता के लिए उसके शत्रुओं से युद्ध करते हुए तुमने सातों नगरों को विदीर्ण किया था. उसी प्रकार तुमने सुदास राजा का पक्ष लेकर अंहो नामक असुर का धन कुश के समान छिन्न करने के पश्चात् उसी हव्यदाता सुदास को दे दिया था. (७)
O thunderbolt Indra! You broke down the seven cities while fighting his enemies to help the sage Purukutsa. In the same way, you took the side of sudas king and gave the wealth of the asura named Anho to the same havidar Sudas after taking it away like a Kusha. (7)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
त्वं त्यां न॑ इन्द्र देव चि॒त्रामिष॒मापो॒ न पी॑पयः॒ परि॑ज्मन् । यया॑ शूर॒ प्रत्य॒स्मभ्यं॒ यंसि॒ त्मन॒मूर्जं॒ न वि॒श्वध॒ क्षर॑ध्यै ॥ (८)
हे तेजस्वी इंद्र! तुम हमारे संग्रहणीय धन को विस्तृत धरती पर पानी के समान बढ़ाओ. हे वीर! जिस प्रकार तुमने जल को चारों ओर फैलाया है, उसी प्रकार हमारे प्राणधारक अन्न का भी विस्तार करो. (८)
O stunning Indra! You increase our collectible wealth like water on the vast earth. Oh, hero! Just as you have spread water around, so also expand our life-sustaining food. (8)
