ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
यो य॒ज्ञो वि॒श्वत॒स्तन्तु॑भिस्त॒त एक॑शतं देवक॒र्मेभि॒राय॑तः । इ॒मे व॑यन्ति पि॒तरो॒ य आ॑य॒युः प्र व॒याप॑ व॒येत्या॑सते त॒ते ॥ (१)
आकाश आदि तंतुओं द्वारा जो सर्गरूप यज्ञ सब ओर विस्तृत है, वह सौ देव संबंधी कर्मो से व्याप्त है. प्रजापति के पालक देव जो सारी सूष्टि में व्याप्त हैं, वे इस प्रपंच का निर्माण करते हैं. वे ही इस विस्तृत विश्व के प्राण हैं. (१)
The sargarupa yajna which is spread all over the sky, etc., is pervaded by the deeds of a hundred gods. Prajapati's foster god, who pervades all the susti, creates this prapancha. They are the souls of this vast world. (1)

पुमा॑ँ एनं तनुत॒ उत्कृ॑णत्ति॒ पुमा॒न्वि त॑त्ने॒ अधि॒ नाके॑ अ॒स्मिन् । इ॒मे म॒यूखा॒ उप॑ सेदुरू॒ सदः॒ सामा॑नि चक्रु॒स्तस॑रा॒ण्योत॑वे ॥ (२)
प्रजापति इस सृष्टिरूपी यज्ञ को विस्तृत करता है एवं वही इसे संकुचित करता है. वही धरती एवं स्वर्ग में इस सृष्टिरूपी यज्ञ का विस्तार करता है. प्रजापति की किरण के समान ये देव यज्ञस्थान में बैठे थे. इन्होंने यज्ञरूपी वस्त्र को बुनने के लिए तिरछे धागे के रूप में साममंत्रों का निर्माण किया. (२)
Prajapati elaborates this creational yajna and he is the one who compresses it. It is He who extends this creational yagna on earth and in heaven. Like the ray of Prajapati, these gods were sitting in the yajnasthan. He made sammantras in the form of slanted threads to weave the sacrificial fabric. (2)

कासी॑त्प्र॒मा प्र॑ति॒मा किं नि॒दान॒माज्यं॒ किमा॑सीत्परि॒धिः क आ॑सीत् । छन्दः॒ किमा॑सी॒त्प्रउ॑गं॒ किमु॒क्थं यद्दे॒वा दे॒वमय॑जन्त॒ विश्वे॑ ॥ (३)
जिस समय सभी देवों ने प्रजापति का यज्ञ किया, उस समय क्या प्रमाण था? उस समय देवमूर्ति क्या थी? उस यज्ञ का फल, घृत, समिधाएं, छंद और उक्थमंत्र क्या थे? (३)
What was the evidence at the time when all the gods performed the yajna of Prajapati? What was the god at that time? What were the fruits, the ghrit, the samidahas, the verses and the ukthamtra of that yajna? (3)

अ॒ग्नेर्गा॑य॒त्र्य॑भवत्स॒युग्वो॒ष्णिह॑या सवि॒ता सं ब॑भूव । अ॒नु॒ष्टुभा॒ सोम॑ उ॒क्थैर्मह॑स्वा॒न्बृह॒स्पते॑र्बृह॒ती वाच॑मावत् ॥ (४)
गायत्री छंद अग्नि का तथा उष्णिक छंद सविता का सहायक हुआ. सोम अनुष्टुप् छंद से तथा तेजस्वी सूर्य उवथ छंद से युक्त हुए. बृहती छंद ने बृहस्पति के वचनों का सहारा लिया. (४)
Gayatri's verses were the helpers of agni and the tropic verses of Savita. Som was filled with anushtup verses and the bright sun with uvattha verses. The great verses resorted to the words of Jupiter. (4)

वि॒राण्मि॒त्रावरु॑णयोरभि॒श्रीरिन्द्र॑स्य त्रि॒ष्टुबि॒ह भा॒गो अह्नः॑ । विश्वा॑न्दे॒वाञ्जग॒त्या वि॑वेश॒ तेन॑ चाकॢप्र॒ ऋष॑यो मनु॒ष्याः॑ ॥ (५)
विराट् छंद मित्र और वरुण का आश्रित हुआ.. त्रिष्टुप् छंद एवं माध्यंदिन का सोमरस इंद्र के भाग में पड़ा. जगती छंद ने सभी देवों का आश्रय लिया. इन छंदों द्वारा ऋषियों और मनुष्यों ने यज्ञ की कल्पना की. (५)
Virata became a friend of verses and dependent of Varun.. The somras of trishtup verses and medians lay in the part of Indra. Jagati verses took shelter of all the gods. Through these verses sages and men conceived of the yajna. (5)

चा॒कॢ॒प्रे तेन॒ ऋष॑यो मनु॒ष्या॑ य॒ज्ञे जा॒ते पि॒तरो॑ नः पुरा॒णे । पश्य॑न्मन्ये॒ मन॑सा॒ चक्ष॑सा॒ तान्य इ॒मं य॒ज्ञमय॑जन्त॒ पूर्वे॑ ॥ (६)
यज्ञ के उत्पन्न होने पर हमारे प्राचीन पितरों अर्थात् ऋषियों और मनुष्यों ने उक्त छंदों की सहायता से यज्ञ पूर्ण किया. जिन पूर्व पुरुषों ने इस यज्ञ को पूर्ण किया था, उन्हें मैं मन की आंखों से देख रहा हूं. मैं ऐसा मानता हूं. (६)
On the birth of the yajna, our ancient fathers, i.e., sages and human beings, completed the yajna with the help of the said verses. The former men who completed this yajna, I am looking at them with the eyes of the mind. I believe so. (6)

स॒हस्तो॑माः स॒हछ॑न्दस आ॒वृतः॑ स॒हप्र॑मा॒ ऋष॑यः स॒प्त दैव्याः॑ । पूर्वे॑षां॒ पन्था॑मनु॒दृश्य॒ धीरा॑ अ॒न्वाले॑भिरे र॒थ्यो॒३॒॑ न र॒श्मीन् ॥ (७)
सात दिव्य ऋषियों ने यज्ञ के मंत्र, छंद एवं नियम एक साथ जानकर यज्ञ का अनुष्ठान किया. जिस प्रकार सारथि घोड़ों की लगाम पकड़ता है, उसी प्रकार धीर ऋषियों ने प्राचीन लोगों के मार्ग का अनुसरण किया. (७)
The seven divine sages performed the ritual of yajna by knowing the mantras, verses and rules of the yajna together. Just as the charioteer holds the reins of horses, so the patient sages followed the path of the ancient people. (7)
