अस्ती॒दम॑धि॒मन्थ॑न॒मस्ति॑ प्र॒जन॑नं कृ॒तम् । ए॒तां वि॒श्पत्नी॒मा भ॑रा॒ग्निं म॑न्थाम पू॒र्वथा॑ ॥ (१)
यह अग्नि-मंथन का साधन तथा उसे उत्पन्न करने वाला पदार्थ है. इस विश्वपालिका अरणि को लाओ. हम पहले की तरह ही अग्नि का मंथन करेंगे. (१)
It is the instrument of agni-churning and the substance that produces it. Bring this world-cranial arani. We will churn out the agni just like before. (1)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 3)
अ॒रण्यो॒र्निहि॑तो जा॒तवे॑दा॒ गर्भ॑ इव॒ सुधि॑तो ग॒र्भिणी॑षु । दि॒वेदि॑व॒ ईड्यो॑ जागृ॒वद्भि॑र्ह॒विष्म॑द्भिर्मनु॒ष्ये॑भिर॒ग्निः ॥ (२)
जिस प्रकार गर्भवती नारियों में गर्भ रहता है, उसी प्रकार जातवेद अग्नि अरणियों में छिपे हैं. वे अग्नि हवि धारण करने वाले एवं यज्ञकर्म में जागरूक मनुष्यों द्वारा प्रतिदिन पूजा करने योग्य हैं. (२)
Just as pregnant women are pregnant, in the same way jatavedas are hidden in agni arrows. They are worthy of being worshipped daily by people who wear agni and are conscious of the yagnakarma. (2)

उ॒त्ता॒नाया॒मव॑ भरा चिकि॒त्वान्स॒द्यः प्रवी॑ता॒ वृष॑णं जजान । अ॒रु॒षस्तू॑पो॒ रुश॑दस्य॒ पाज॒ इळा॑यास्पु॒त्रो व॒युने॑ऽजनिष्ट ॥ (३)
हे ज्ञानवान् अध्वर्यु! ऊपर मुखवाली निचली अरणि पर नीचे मुखवाली उत्तर अरणि रखो. उसी समय गर्भवती अरणि कामवर्षक अग्नि को उत्पन्न करे. उस में अग्नि का अंधकार-नाशक तेज था. प्रकाशित तेज वाले एवं इडा के पुत्र अर्थात् उत्तर वेदी में उत्पन्न अग्नि अरणि में प्रकट हुए. (३)
O Jnanvan Aadhvaryu! Place the north arrow facing down on the lower wall. At the same time, the pregnant arna should produce a workable agni. In it was the darkness of the agni. The illuminated ones appeared in the agni arnay created in the north altar and the son of Ida, i.e., the son of Ida. (3)

इळा॑यास्त्वा प॒दे व॒यं नाभा॑ पृथि॒व्या अधि॑ । जात॑वेदो॒ नि धी॑म॒ह्यग्ने॑ ह॒व्याय॒ वोळ्ह॑वे ॥ (४)
हे जातवेद अग्नि! हम हव्य वहन करने के निमित्त तुम्हें धरती के ऊपर एवं उत्तर वेदी के मध्य भाग में स्थापित करते हैं. (४)
O Jativeda Agni! We set you up above the earth and in the middle part of the north altar in order to carry the wind. (4)

मन्थ॑ता नरः क॒विमद्व॑यन्तं॒ प्रचे॑तसम॒मृतं॑ सु॒प्रती॑कम् । य॒ज्ञस्य॑ के॒तुं प्र॑थ॒मं पु॒रस्ता॑द॒ग्निं न॑रो जनयता सु॒शेव॑म् ॥ (५)
हे यज्ञ के नेता अध्वर्युगण! क्रांतदर्शी, मन एवं वाणी से एक ही कर्म करने वाले, प्रकृष्ट ज्ञानयुक्त, मरणरहित व शोभन अंगों समेत अग्नि को मंथन द्वारा पैदा करो. हे नेताओ! यज्ञ का संकेत करने वाले, मुख्य एवं सुख से युक्त अग्नि को यज्ञकर्म के पहले ही उत्पन्न करो. (५)
O leader of the yajna, adhwaryugan! Create the agni by churning out the artisan, with the mind and speech doing the same deeds, with a knowledgeable, without death and with the awe-inspiring organs. Hey leaders! Produce the agni that indicates yajna, the main and the joyful agni before the yajnakarma. (5)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 3)
यदी॒ मन्थ॑न्ति बा॒हुभि॒र्वि रो॑च॒तेऽश्वो॒ न वा॒ज्य॑रु॒षो वने॒ष्वा । चि॒त्रो न याम॑न्न॒श्विनो॒रनि॑वृतः॒ परि॑ वृण॒क्त्यश्म॑न॒स्तृणा॒ दह॑न् ॥ (६)
जब हाथों से अरणि का मंथन किया जाता है, तब लकड़ियों में अग्नि इस प्रकार तीव्र गति से सुशोभित होते हैं, जिस प्रकार शीघ्रगामी अश्व अथवा अश्चिनीकुमारों का अनेक रंग का रथ शोभा पाता है. अवरोधरहित अग्नि पत्थरों और तिनकों को जलाते हुए आगे बढ़ते हैं. (६)
When the arny is churned with the hands, the agni in the woods is adorned at such a rapid pace, just as the fast-moving horse or the multi-colored chariot of the Ashchinikumars adorns. The unhindered agni proceeds by burning stones and straws. (6)

जा॒तो अ॒ग्नी रो॑चते॒ चेकि॑तानो वा॒जी विप्रः॑ कविश॒स्तः सु॒दानुः॑ । यं दे॒वास॒ ईड्यं॑ विश्व॒विदं॑ हव्य॒वाह॒मद॑धुरध्व॒रेषु॑ ॥ (७)
मंथन से उत्पन्न अग्नि सर्वज्ञ! नित्यगतिशील, यज्ञकर्म के ज्ञाता, मेधावी, होताओं द्वारा स्तुत एवं शोभन फलदाता के रूप में शोभा पाते हैं. इन्हीं स्तुत्य एवं सर्वज्ञ अग्नि को देवों ने यज्ञों में हव्यवाहक बनाया था. (७)
The agni generated by the churning is omniscient! The regular, the knower of yajnakarma, the meritorious, the meritorious, the praises of the hotas and adorned with the gifts of fruit. These hymns and omniscient agnis were made by the gods the havan-bearers in the yagnas. (7)

सीद॑ होतः॒ स्व उ॑ लो॒के चि॑कि॒त्वान्सा॒दया॑ य॒ज्ञं सु॑कृ॒तस्य॒ योनौ॑ । दे॒वा॒वीर्दे॒वान्ह॒विषा॑ यजा॒स्यग्ने॑ बृ॒हद्यज॑माने॒ वयो॑ धाः ॥ (८)
हे होमनिष्पादक एवं ज्ञानवान् अग्नि! तुम अपने स्थान अर्थात् उत्तर वेदी पर बैठो तथा यज्ञकर्ता यजमान को उत्तम लोक में ले जाओ. हे देवरक्षक अग्नि! हव्य द्वारा देवों की पूजा करो एवं मुझ यज्ञ करने वाले यजमान को पर्याप्त अन्न दो. (८)
O home-performing and enlightening agni! You sit at your place, i.e., the north altar, and take the sacrificial host to the best realm. O God protector agni! Worship the gods through havya and give me enough food to the host who performs the yajna. (8)
