ऋग्वेद (मंडल 7)
आ मां मि॑त्रावरुणे॒ह र॑क्षतं कुला॒यय॑द्वि॒श्वय॒न्मा न॒ आ ग॑न् । अ॒ज॒का॒वं दु॒र्दृशी॑कं ति॒रो द॑धे॒ मा मां पद्ये॑न॒ रप॑सा विद॒त्त्सरुः॑ ॥ (१)
हे मित्र एवं वरुण! इस लोक में हमारी रक्षा करो. स्थान बनाने वाला एवं विशेषरूप से बढ़ने वाला विष हमारी ओर न आवे. अज का दुर्दशीक नामक विष समाप्त हो. सांप हमारे पैर की ध्वनि न पहचान सके. (१)
Oh my friend and Varun! Protect us in this folk. Do not let the poison that makes up space and especially the growing poison come towards us. The poison called the malignancy of aj is eliminated. Snakes cannot recognize the sound of our feet. (1)

यद्वि॒जाम॒न्परु॑षि॒ वन्द॑नं॒ भुव॑दष्ठी॒वन्तौ॒ परि॑ कु॒ल्फौ च॒ देह॑त् । अ॒ग्निष्टच्छोच॒न्नप॑ बाधतामि॒तो मा मां पद्ये॑न॒ रप॑सा विद॒त्त्सरुः॑ ॥ (२)
हे दीप्तिशाली अग्नि! पेड़ों की डालियों में अनेक रूप का बंदन नामक जो विष होता है एवं जो घुटने एवं टखने को फुला देता है, हमारे लोगों से उस विष को दूर करो. छिपकर आने वाला सांप हमें पगध्वनि से न पहचान सके. (२)
O glorious agni! In the branches of trees, a poison called bandana of many forms and which inflates the knees and ankles, remove that poison from our people. The snake that comes in secret cannot recognize us by the pug-of-the-clock. (2)

यच्छ॑ल्म॒लौ भव॑ति॒ यन्न॒दीषु॒ यदोष॑धीभ्यः॒ परि॒ जाय॑ते वि॒षम् । विश्वे॑ दे॒वा निरि॒तस्तत्सु॑वन्तु॒ मा मां पद्ये॑न॒ रप॑सा विद॒त्त्सरुः॑ ॥ (३)
जो विष शाल्मली नामक वृक्ष में होता है एवं जो विष नदियों एवं ओषधियों में जन्म लेता है, विश्वेदेव उस विष को हमसे दूर करें. छिपकर आने वाला सांप हमारी पगध्वनि न पहचान सके. (३)
The poison which occurs in a tree called Shalmali and the poison which is born in rivers and herbs, may Vishvedeva remove that poison from us. The snake coming in hiding cannot recognize our footprints. (3)

याः प्र॒वतो॑ नि॒वत॑ उ॒द्वत॑ उद॒न्वती॑रनुद॒काश्च॒ याः । ता अ॒स्मभ्यं॒ पय॑सा॒ पिन्व॑मानाः शि॒वा दे॒वीर॑शिप॒दा भ॑वन्तु॒ सर्वा॑ न॒द्यो॑ अशिमि॒दा भ॑वन्तु ॥ (४)
ऊंचे देशों में, नीचे देशों में, शक्तिशाली देशों में, जल वाले देशों में एवं बिना पानी वाले देशों में बहती हुई जो नदियां हमें जल से भिगोती हैं, वे कल्याणकारिणी नदीरूपी देवियां हमारे शिपद नामक रोग को नष्ट करें एवं अहिंसक बनें. (४)
The rivers that flow in the higher countries, in the countries below, in the powerful countries, in the watery countries and in the countries without water, the goddesses of the welfare river, destroy the disease called our shipad and become non-violent. (4)
