अथर्ववेद: | सूक्त: 2
द॒ण्डंहस्ता॑दा॒ददा॑नो ग॒तासोः॑ स॒ह श्रोत्रे॑ण॒ वर्च॑सा॒ बले॑न । अत्रै॒व त्वमि॒हव॒यं सु॒वीरा॒ विश्वा॒ मृधो॑ अ॒भिमा॑तीर्जयेम ॥ (५९)
ब्राह्मण के हाथ से बांस के दंड को ग्रहण करता हुआ मैं कानों के तेज तथा उस से प्राप्त बल से युक्त रहूं. हे प्रेत! तू इस चिता में ही रह. हम इस पृथ्वी पर सुख से रहते हुए अपने शत्रुओं तथा उन के उपद्रवो को दबाएं. (५९)
While accepting the bamboo pole from the hand of the Brahmin, I will be filled with the sharpness of the ears and the force received from it. Oh my god! You stay in this pyre. Let us live happily on this earth and suppress our enemies and their troubles. (59)
