अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
इन्द्रः॑ पू॒र्भिदाति॑र॒द्दास॑म॒र्कैर्वि॒दद्व॑सु॒र्दय॑मानो॒ वि शत्रू॑न् । ब्रह्म॑जूतस्त॒न्वा वावृधा॒नो भूरि॑दात्र॒ आपृ॑ण॒द्रोद॑सी उ॒भे ॥ (१)
इंद्र देव ने शत्रुओं के नगरों को अपने पूजनीय बल से नष्ट कर दिया है और शत्रुओं की पूर्ण रूप से हिंसा कर दी है. इंद्र ने किरणों के द्वारा अंधकार का नाश करने वाले दिन को बढ़ाया है. इंद्र ने शत्रुओं का धन प्राप्त किया है तथा उन के पुत्र आदि की विशेष रूप से हिंसा की है. पर्याप्त स्तोत्रों के कारण वृद्धि को प्राप्त शरीर द्वारा धन संपन्न इंद्र ने धरती और आकाश दोनों को व्याप्त किया है. Indra Dev has destroyed the cities of enemies with his revered force and has completely violence the enemies. Indra has extended the day that destroys darkness through rays. Indra has received the wealth of enemies and has especially committed violence against their sons etc. Indra, rich in wealth by the body that has attained growth due to adequate hymns, has pervaded both the earth and the sky. अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
म॒खस्य॑ ते तवि॒षस्य॒ प्र जू॒तिमिय॑र्मि॒ वाच॑म॒मृता॑य॒ भूष॑न् । इन्द्र॑ क्षिती॒नाम॑सि॒ मानु॑षीणां वि॒शां दैवी॑नामु॒त पू॑र्व॒यावा॑ ॥ (२)
हे इंद्र! मैं तुम्हारे प्रशंसनीय बल को बढ़ाने वाली स्तुतिरूपी वाणी को प्रेरित करता हूं. मैं अन्न प्राप्ति के लिए तुम्हें अलंकृत करता हूं. हे इंद्र! तुम मनुष्य संबंधी और देव संबंधी प्रजाओं के आगे चलने वाले हो. (२)
O Indra! I inspire the voice of praise that enhances your praiseworthy strength. I embellish you for getting food. O Indra! You are going to walk ahead of human and divine subjects. (2)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
इन्द्रो॑ वृ॒त्रम॑वृणो॒च्छर्ध॑नीतिः॒ प्र मा॒यिना॑ममिना॒द्वर्प॑णीतिः । अह॒न्व्यंसमु॒शध॒ग्वने॑ष्वा॒विर्धेना॑ अकृणोद्रा॒म्याणा॑म् ॥ (३)
अपने हिंसक बल का शत्रु पर प्रयोग करने वाले इंद्र देव ने सभी ओर से व्याप्त करने वाले वृत्र को रोका और अपने शस्त्र से मायावी शत्रु का विनाश किया. इंद्र ने वृत्र असुर को भुजाओं से हीन कर के मारा. इस के बाद उस के रमण के साधनों — पत्नी अथवा गौ आदि को अपने अधिकार में किया. (३)
Indra Dev, who used his violent force on the enemy, stopped the vritra that spread from all sides and destroyed the elusive enemy with his weapon. Indra killed the vritra asura by making him inferior to his arms. After this, he took possession of his means of pleasure – wife or cow etc. (3)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
इन्द्रः॑ स्व॒र्षा ज॒नय॒न्नहा॑नि जि॒गायो॒शिग्भिः॒ पृत॑ना अभि॒ष्टिः । प्रारो॑चय॒न्मन॑वे के॒तुमह्ना॒मवि॑न्द॒ज्ज्योति॑र्बृह॒ते रणा॑य ॥ (४)
इंद्र स्वर्ग प्राप्त कराने वाले तथा शत्रुओं का विनाश करने वाले हैं. इंद्र अंधकार का विनाश कर के दिनों को जन्म देते हैं. इंद्र ने असुरों के साथ युद्ध कर के उन की सेनाओं को जीता है. इंद्र ने यजमानों के अधिक सुख के लिए दिन के स्वामी सूर्य को आकाश में दीप्त किया और उस से महान तेज प्राप्त किया है. (४)
Indra is the one who attains heaven and destroys enemies. Indra destroys darkness and gives birth to the days. Indra has won their armies by fighting with the Asuras. Indra has brightened the sun, the swami of the day, in the sky for the greater happiness of the hosts and has received great glory from it. (4)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
इन्द्र॒स्तुजो॑ ब॒र्हणा॒ आ वि॑वेश नृ॒वद्दधा॑नो॒ नर्या॑ पु॒रूणि॑ । अचे॑तय॒द्धिय॑ इ॒मा ज॑रि॒त्रे प्रेमं वर्ण॑मतिरच्छु॒क्रमा॑साम् ॥ (५)
जैसे युद्ध का इच्छुक वीर शत्रु सेना में प्रवेश करता है, उसी प्रकार इंद्र भी यजमानों के हित के लिए असुरों की विशाल सेनाओं में प्रवेश करते हैं तथा स्तुति करने वालों के लिए उषाओं का उदय करते हैं. इंद्र ही उषाओं के श्रेत रंग को बढ़ाते हैं. (५)
Just as the war-seeking hero enters the enemy army, so Indra also enters the vast armies of asuras for the benefit of the hosts and raises ushas for those who praise. It is Indra who increases the shret color of ushas. (5)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
म॒हो म॒हानि॑ पनयन्त्य॒स्येन्द्र॑स्य॒ कर्म॒ सुकृ॑ता पु॒रूणि॑ । वृ॒जने॑न वृजि॒नान्त्सं पि॑पेष मा॒याभि॑र्द॒स्यूँर॒भिभू॑त्योजाः ॥ (६)
इंद्र ने जो अनेक प्रशंसनीय कार्य किए हैं, श्रोता उन की प्रशंसा करते हैं. शत्रुओं को वश में करने वाले इंद्र ने पापी राक्षसों को अपने अस्त्रो से नष्ट कर दिया है तथा शक्तिशाली असुरों का विनाश कर दिया. (६)
The audience appreciates the many commendable works that Indra has done. Indra, who subdued the enemies, has destroyed the sinful demons with his astro and destroyed the powerful asuras. (6)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
यु॒धेन्द्रो॑ म॒ह्ना वरि॑वश्चकार दे॒वेभ्यः॒ सत्प॑तिश्चर्षणि॒प्राः । वि॒वस्व॑तः॒ सद॑ने अस्य॒ तानि॒ विप्रा॑ उ॒क्थेभिः॑ क॒वयो॑ गृणन्ति ॥ (७)
किसी की सहायता न ले कर इंद्र ने अकेले ही अपने स्तुतिकर्ताओं को धन प्राप्त कराया. इंद्र यजमानों की सदा रक्षा करते हैं और मनुष्यों को इच्छित फल देते हैं. यज्ञ आदि कर्म करने वाले मनुष्य इंद्र का वरण करते हैं. (७)
Without taking anyone's help, Indra alone received money to his praisers. Indra always protects the hosts and gives the desired results to humans. People who perform yajna etc. choose Indra. (7)
अथर्ववेद (कांड 20)
स॑त्रा॒साहं॒ वरे॑ण्यं सहो॒दां स॑स॒वांसं॒ स्वर॒पश्च॑ दे॒वीः । स॒सान॒ यः पृ॑थि॒वीं द्यामु॒तेमामिन्द्रं॑ मद॒न्त्यनु॒ धीर॑णासः ॥ (८)
बल प्रदान करने वाले, शत्रु सेना को पराजित करने वाले एवं स्वर्गीय जलों के सेवनकर्ता इंद्र ने मनुष्यों को धरती तथा आकाश दिए हैं. उन इंद्र की स्तुति करने वाले और यज्ञ कर्ता यजमान हवि दे कर उन्हें प्रसन्न करते हैं. (८)
Indra, who provides strength, defeats the enemy army and consumes heavenly waters, has given earth and sky to humans. Those who praise Indra and perform the yajna please him by giving him a blessing. (8)
