पिप्वली अर्थात् पीपल ने सभी ओषधियों का तिरस्कार कर दिया है तथा सभी रोगों को पीड़ित किया है. इंद्र आदि देवों ने अमृत मंथन के समय इस का निर्माण किया था, क्योंकि यही एक ओषधि सभी रोगों के निवारण में समर्थ है. (१)
Pipvali i.e. Peepal has despised all the medicines and has afflicted all diseases. Indra etc. gods had created it at the time of Amrit Manthan, because this one medicine is capable of preventing all diseases. (1)
पि॑प्प॒ल्यः सम॑वदन्ताय॒तीर्जन॑ना॒दधि॑ । यं जी॒वम॒श्नवा॑महै॒ न स रि॑ष्याति॒ पूरु॑षः ॥ (२)
पिप्वलियों ने सागर मंथन के समय अपने जन्म के पश्चात आ कर आकाश में संभाषण किया कि जीवित पुरुष को हम ओषधि के रूप में व्याप्त करते हैं. वह पुरुष नष्ट न हो. (२)
The Pipvalis came after their birth at the time of ocean churning and spoke in the sky that we permeate the living man as a medicine. Don't let that man be destroyed. (2)
हे पिप्वली! असुरों ने तुझे खोदा तथा देवों ने सभी प्राणियों के हित के लिए तुझे उखाड़ा. तुम वातरोग से पीड़ित की ओषधि बनी हुई आक्षेपक अर्थात् मिरगी नाम के वातरोग की ओषधि हो. (३)
O pipvali! The asuras dug you up and the gods uprooted you for the benefit of all beings. You are the medicine of the person suffering from gout, the convulsion, that is, the medicine of the vata disease named epilepsy. (3)
