ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
अ॒भि त्यं मे॒षं पु॑रुहू॒तमृ॒ग्मिय॒मिन्द्रं॑ गी॒र्भिर्म॑दता॒ वस्वो॑ अर्ण॒वम् । यस्य॒ द्यावो॒ न वि॒चर॑न्ति॒ मानु॑षा भु॒जे मंहि॑ष्ठम॒भि विप्र॑मर्चत ॥ (१)
हे स्तोताओ! यजमानों द्वारा बुलाए गए, ऋत्विजों द्वारा स्तुति किए जाते हुए, धन के आवास एवं बलवान् इंद्र को अपने वचनों द्वारा प्रसन्न करो. जो इंद्र सूर्यकिरणों के समान सबका हित करते हैं, उन्हीं अतिशय प्रबुद्ध एवं मेधावी इंद्र की भोग प्राप्ति के लिए अर्चना करो. (१)
This stotao! Please Indra, the abode of wealth and strengthen Indra, called by hosts, praised by the ritvijs. Those Indras who do the same benefit to all as suryakirans, worship the same highly enlightened and meritorious Indra for the enjoyment of it. (1)

अ॒भीम॑वन्वन्स्वभि॒ष्टिमू॒तयो॑ऽन्तरिक्ष॒प्रां तवि॑षीभि॒रावृ॑तम् । इन्द्रं॒ दक्षा॑स ऋ॒भवो॑ मद॒च्युतं॑ श॒तक्र॑तुं॒ जव॑नी सू॒नृतारु॑हत् ॥ (२)
सबका रक्षण एवं प्रवर्धन करने वाले ऋभुगण नामक मरुतों ने शोभन, आगमनशील, अपने तेज से आकाश को पूर्ण करने वाले, अति बली, शत्रुओं का गर्व नष्ट करने वाले एवं शतक्रतु इंद्र के सम्मुख आकर उनकी सहायता की. (२)
The maruts, ribhugana, who protected and amplified all of them, helped them by coming before Indra, who was brave, incoming, full of his brightness, the over-sacrificing, the one who destroyed the pride of the enemies, and the centurion.

त्वं गो॒त्रमङ्गि॑रोभ्योऽवृणो॒रपो॒तात्र॑ये श॒तदु॑रेषु गातु॒वित् । स॒सेन॑ चिद्विम॒दाया॑वहो॒ वस्वा॒जावद्रिं॑ वावसा॒नस्य॑ न॒र्तय॑न् ॥ (३)
हे इंद्र! तुमने अव्यक्त शब्द करने वाले एवं वर्षा के निरोधक मेघ को अपने वञ्ज से हटाकर अंगिरा ऋषियों के लिए जल बरसाया था. जब असुरों ने अत्रि को पीड़ा पहुंचाने के लिए शतद्वार नामक यंत्र का प्रयोग किया था, तब तुमने उन्हें मार्ग बताया था. तुमने विमद ऋषि के लिए अन्नयुक्त धन प्रदान किया था, इसी प्रकार तुमने संग्राम में विजय प्राप्ति के लिए स्तुति करने वाले अनेक स्तोताओं को वञ्र चलाकर बचाया था. (३)
O Indra! You showered water for the Sages of Angira by removing the latent word and rain-resistant cloud from your vanja. When the asuras used a yantra called Shatdwara to cause pain to Atri, you told them the way. You had provided food-rich money for the sage Vimad, in the same way you saved many hymns praising them for victory in the struggle. (3)

त्वम॒पाम॑पि॒धाना॑वृणो॒रपाधा॑रयः॒ पर्व॑ते॒ दानु॑म॒द्वसु॑ । वृ॒त्रं यदि॑न्द्र॒ शव॒साव॑धी॒रहि॒मादित्सूर्यं॑ दि॒व्यारो॑हयो दृ॒शे ॥ (४)
हे इंद्र! तुमने जल के अवरोधक मेघों को हटा दिया है एवं वृत्र आदि असुरों को पराजित करके उनका धन पर्वत पर छिपा दिया है. तुमने तीनों लोकों की हिंसा करने वाले वृत्र का वध किया एवं उसके तुरंत पश्चात् संसार को देखने के लिए सूर्य को आकाश में चढ़ा दिया था. (४)
O Indra! You have removed the blocking clouds of water and have defeated the asuras like Vritra etc. and hid their wealth on the mountain. You killed the violent circle of the three peoples and immediately after that you raised the sun into the sky to see the world. (4)

त्वं मा॒याभि॒रप॑ मा॒यिनो॑ऽधमः स्व॒धाभि॒र्ये अधि॒ शुप्ता॒वजु॑ह्वत । त्वं पिप्रो॑र्नृमणः॒ प्रारु॑जः॒ पुरः॒ प्र ऋ॒जिश्वा॑नं दस्यु॒हत्ये॑ष्वाविथ ॥ (५)
हे इंद्र! जो असुर हविष्य अन्नों से सुशोभित अपने मुखों में ही यज्ञीय सामग्री डाल लेते थे, तुमने उन मायावियों को माया द्वारा पराजित किया था. हे यजमानों पर अनुग्रहबुद्धि रखने वाले इंद्र! तुमने पिप्रु असुर के निवासस्थान ध्वस्त कर दिए थे. तुमने हत्या करने के लिए उद्यत दस्युओं के हाथों में पड़े ऋजिश्चान् की पूर्णतया रक्षा की थी. (५)
O Indra! The asuras who used to put sacrificial material in their mouths adorned with the food grains, you defeated those Mayavis by maya. O Indra, who has mercy on hosts! You demolished the abodes of Pipru Asura. You fully protected the ristian in the hands of the bandits to kill. (5)

त्वं कुत्सं॑ शुष्ण॒हत्ये॑ष्वावि॒थार॑न्धयोऽतिथि॒ग्वाय॒ शम्ब॑रम् । म॒हान्तं॑ चिदर्बु॒दं नि क्र॑मीः प॒दा स॒नादे॒व द॑स्यु॒हत्या॑य जज्ञिषे ॥ (६)
हे इंद्र! तुमने शुष्ण असुर के साथ भयानक संग्राम में कुत्स ऋषि की रक्षा की थी तथा अतिथियों का स्वागत करने वाले दिवोदास को बचाने के लिए शंबर असुर का वध किया था. तुमने अर्बुद नामक महान् असुर को पैरों से कुचल डाला था. इस प्रकार तुम्हारा जन्म दस्युनाश के लिए हुआ जान पड़ता है. (६)
O Indra! You had protected the sage Kuts in a terrible battle with the Shushna Asura and killed the Sambar Asura to save the Divodas who welcomed the guests. You crushed the great asura named Arbud with your feet. Thus you seem to have been born to bandit. (6)

त्वे विश्वा॒ तवि॑षी स॒ध्र्य॑ग्घि॒ता तव॒ राधः॑ सोमपी॒थाय॑ हर्षते । तव॒ वज्र॑श्चिकिते बा॒ह्वोर्हि॒तो वृ॒श्चा शत्रो॒रव॒ विश्वा॑नि॒ वृष्ण्या॑ ॥ (७)
हे इंद्र! तुम में संपूर्ण बल निहित है एवं सोमरस पीने के बाद तुम्हारा मन अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो जाता है. हम यह जानते हैं कि तुम्हारे दोनों हाथों में वज्र रहता है. इसलिए तुम शत्रुओं का समस्त बल छिन्न करो. (७)
O Indra! You have all the force in you and after drinking somras, your mind becomes very happy. We know that there is thunderbolt in both your hands. So you should break away all the strength of the enemies. (7)

वि जा॑नी॒ह्यार्या॒न्ये च॒ दस्य॑वो ब॒र्हिष्म॑ते रन्धया॒ शास॑दव्र॒तान् । शाकी॑ भव॒ यज॑मानस्य चोदि॒ता विश्वेत्ता ते॑ सध॒मादे॑षु चाकन ॥ (८)
हे इंद्र! पहले तुम यह बात जानो कि कौन आर्य है और कौन दस्यु? इसके पश्चात् तुम कुशयुक्त यज्ञों का विरोध करने वालों को नष्ट करके उन्हें यजमानों के वश में लाओ. तुम शक्तिशाली हो, इसलिए यज्ञ करने वालों के सहायक बनो. मैं स्तोता भी तुम्हें प्रसन्नता देने वाले यज्ञों के तुम्हारे उन समस्त कर्मो की प्रशंसा करना चाहता हूं. (८)
O Indra! First, you know who is the Aryan and who is the bandit? After this, you destroy those who oppose the sagittal yajnas and bring them under the control of the hosts. You are powerful, so be the helpers of those who perform yajna. I also want to praise the psalms for all your deeds of the yajnas that make you happy. (8)
