हो॒त्राद॒हं व॑रुण॒ बिभ्य॑दायं॒ नेदे॒व मा॑ यु॒नज॒न्नत्र॑ दे॒वाः । तस्य॑ मे त॒न्वो॑ बहु॒धा निवि॑ष्टा ए॒तमर्थं॒ न चि॑केता॒हम॒ग्निः ॥ (४)
अग्नि बोले-“हे वरुण! मैं हव्य-वहन के कार्य से डरकर यहां आ गया हूं. मैं चाहता हूं कि देवगण मुझे पहले के समान हव्य वहन के कार्य में न लगावें. इसी भय के कारण मेरा शरीर अनेक प्रकार से जल में छिपा है. मैं अब यह हव्यवहन का काम स्वीकार नहीं करूंगा.” (४)
Agni said, "O Varun! I have come here afraid of the act of carrying the haavya. I don't want the Devas to engage me in the same task of carrying the same thing as before. Because of this fear, my body is hidden in the water in many ways. I will no longer accept this act of conveyance." (4)
