ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
र॒क्षो॒हणं॑ वा॒जिन॒मा जि॑घर्मि मि॒त्रं प्रथि॑ष्ठ॒मुप॑ यामि॒ शर्म॑ । शिशा॑नो अ॒ग्निः क्रतु॑भिः॒ समि॑द्धः॒ स नो॒ दिवा॒ स रि॒षः पा॑तु॒ नक्त॑म् ॥ (१)
मैं राक्षसों के हंता शक्तिशाली यजमानों के मित्र और अधिक स्थूल अग्नि का घृत से हवन करता हूं एवं अग्नि के घर के पास जाता हूं. ज्वालाओं को तेज करने वाले अग्नि यजमानों द्वारा प्रज्वलित होते हैं. वे हमें हिंसक राक्षसों से रात-दिन बचावें. (१)
I pray to the house of agni and the more gross agni, the friend of the mighty hosts of the demons and go to the house of agni. Flames that intensify are ignited by hosts. They protect us day and night from violent monsters. (1)

अयो॑दंष्ट्रो अ॒र्चिषा॑ यातु॒धाना॒नुप॑ स्पृश जातवेदः॒ समि॑द्धः । आ जि॒ह्वया॒ मूर॑देवान्रभस्व क्र॒व्यादो॑ वृ॒क्त्व्यपि॑ धत्स्वा॒सन् ॥ (२)
हे जातवेद! तुम प्रज्वलित होकर एवं लोहे के समान तेज दांतों वाले बनकर अपनी ज्वालाओं से राक्षसो को जलाओ. तुम अपनी जीभ के समान ज्वालाओं से हिंसक राक्षसो को मारो एवं मांसभक्षी राक्षसों को काटकर अपने मुंह में रख लो (२)
O Jathaveda! You burn the demons with your flames by igniting and having sharp teeth like iron. You kill violent monsters with flames like your tongue and cut off the carnivorous monsters and put them in your mouth (2)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
उभोभयाविन्नुप धेहि दंष्ट्रा हिं्रः शिशानोऽवरं परं च. उतान्तरिक्षे परि याहि राजञ्जम्भैः सं धेह्यभि यातुधानान्. (3)
हे दोनों जबड़ों में दांतों वाले एवं राक्षसहिंसक अग्नि! तुम अपनी दोनों ओर की दाढ़ें तेज करते हुए वधयोग्य राक्षसों पर जमा दो. हे दीप्त अग्नि! तुम आकाश में स्थित राक्षसों के समीप जाओ एवं अपने दांतों से भक्षण करो. (३)
O toothed and demon-resistant agni in both jaws! You muster the molars on both sides of you while depositing on the slaughterable monsters. O bright agni! Go near the demons in the sky and eat with your teeth. (3)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
य॒ज्ञैरिषूः॑ सं॒नम॑मानो अग्ने वा॒चा श॒ल्याँ अ॒शनि॑भिर्दिहा॒नः । ताभि॑र्विध्य॒ हृद॑ये यातु॒धाना॑न्प्रती॒चो बा॒हून्प्रति॑ भङ्ध्येषाम् ॥ (४)
हे अग्नि! तुम हमारे यज्ञों और स्तुतियों के द्वारा बाणों को झुकाते हुए एवं उनके फलों को वञ्रों के द्वारा तेज करते हुए उन बाणं से राक्षसों के हृदयों को बेधो तथा उनकी भुजाओं को तोड़ दो. (४)
O agni! You pierce the hearts of the demons with those arrows and break their arms with those arrows, bowing down arrows through our sacrifices and praises and sharpening their fruits with vanas. (4)

अग्ने॒ त्वचं॑ यातु॒धान॑स्य भिन्धि हिं॒स्राशनि॒र्हर॑सा हन्त्वेनम् । प्र पर्वा॑णि जातवेदः शृणीहि क्र॒व्यात्क्र॑वि॒ष्णुर्वि चि॑नोतु वृ॒क्णम् ॥ (५)
हे जातवेद अग्नि! राक्षसों की खाल को काट डालो. हिंसक वज्र उन्हें ताप से मारे. तुम राक्षसों के शरीर के भाग अलग-अलग कर दो. मांस की इच्छा करने वाले मांसाहारी जंतु इनके छिन्न-भिन्न शरीरों को खावें. (५)
O Jativeda Agni! Cut off the skins of monsters. The violent thunderbolt hit them with heat. You vary the body parts of the monsters. Meat-seeking carnivorous animals should eat their distinct bodies. (5)

यत्रे॒दानीं॒ पश्य॑सि जातवेद॒स्तिष्ठ॑न्तमग्न उ॒त वा॒ चर॑न्तम् । यद्वा॒न्तरि॑क्षे प॒थिभिः॒ पत॑न्तं॒ तमस्ता॑ विध्य॒ शर्वा॒ शिशा॑नः ॥ (६)
हे जातवेद अग्नि! तुम राक्षस को खड़ा हुआ, घूमता हुआ, आकाश में स्थित, मार्ग में चलता हुआ-किसी भी अवस्था में देखो तो बाण फेंककर उसे बेध दो. (६)
O all-knowing Agni! You stand up to the monster, moving around, in the sky, walking along the way- if you look at it in any case, throw an arrow and pierce it. (6)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 10)
उ॒ताल॑ब्धं स्पृणुहि जातवेद आलेभा॒नादृ॒ष्टिभि॑र्यातु॒धाना॑त् । अग्ने॒ पूर्वो॒ नि ज॑हि॒ शोशु॑चान आ॒मादः॒ क्ष्विङ्का॒स्तम॑द॒न्त्वेनीः॑ ॥ (७)
हे जातवेद अग्नि! तुम मुझ स्तोता को आक्रमणकारी राक्षस के हाथ से अपनी ऋष्टियों द्वारा बचाओ. तुम प्रमुख एवं प्रज्वलित होकर राक्षस को मारो. ये पक्षी उस राक्षस को खावें. (७)
O Jativeda Agni! You save me by your secrets from the hand of the invading monster to the stota. You kill the monster by being prominent and ignited. Let these birds eat that monster. (7)

इ॒ह प्र ब्रू॑हि यत॒मः सो अ॑ग्ने॒ यो या॑तु॒धानो॒ य इ॒दं कृ॒णोति॑ । तमा र॑भस्व स॒मिधा॑ यविष्ठ नृ॒चक्ष॑स॒श्चक्षु॑षे रन्धयैनम् ॥ (८)
हे अग्नि! उस राक्षस को भगाओ जो यज्ञ में विघ्न डालता है. हे अतिशय युवा अग्नि! तुम समिधाओं द्वारा प्रज्वलित होकर राक्षस को मारो. हे मानवों को देखने वाले अग्नि! तुम राक्षस को अपने तेज के वश में करो. (८)
O agni! Drive away the demon who disrupts the yagna. O very young agni! You are ignited by the samididhas and kill the monster. O agni that sees humans! You subdue the monster of your swiftness. (8)
