हे जल! मेघों के द्वारा ताड़ित हो कर इधरउधर गमन करने और नाद करने के कारण तुम्हारा नाम नदी हुआ है. हे बहने वाले जल! तुम्हारे उदक आदि अन्य नाम भी इसी प्रकार सार्थक हैं. (१)
O water! You have been named river because of being chastised by the clouds and moving around and making noises. O flowing water! Other names like your udak etc. are also meaningful in the same way. (1)
अकेले इंद्र ने इच्छानुसार इधरउधर बहने वाले तुम्हें प्रतिष्ठित किया था. इंद्र से सम्मानित हो कर तुम ने अपने को महान समझ लिया. इस कारण तुम्हें उदक कहा जाता है. (४)
Indra alone had distinguished you from flowing around at will. By being honored by Indra, you have considered yourself great. That's why you're called Udak. (4)
कल्याण करने वाला जल ही घृत हुआ. अग्नि में हवन किया हुआ घृत ही जल बन जाता है. जल ही अग्नि और सोम को धारण करता है. इस प्रकार के जल का मधुर रस कभी क्षीण न होने वाले बल के साथ मुझे प्राप्त हो. (५)
The water that does welfare was melted. The ghee performed in the agni becomes water. Water is what holds agni and soma. May I get the sweet juice of this type of water with a never-diminishing force. (5)
इस के पश्चात मैं देखता हूं और सुनता हूं कि बोले जाते हुए शब्द मेरी वाणी को प्राप्त हो रहे हैं. मैं कल्पना करता हूं कि उन जलों के आने से ही मुझे अमृत प्राप्त हुआ है. हे सुनहरे रंग वाले जलो! तुम्हारे सेवन से मैं तृप्त हो गया हूं. (६)

हे जलो! यह सोना तुम्हारा हृदय है और यह मेढक तुम्हारा बछड़ा है. हे अभिमत फल देने में समर्थ जलो! इस खोदे गए स्थान में मेढक के ऊपर फेंकी हुई अबका घास उग आती है, उसी प्रकार तुम इस में स्थिर प्रवाह वाले बनो. मैं इस खोदे गए स्थान में तुम्हें प्रविष्ट कराता हूं. (७)
O burn! This gold is your heart and this frog is your calf. O be able to bear the fruit of opinion! In this dug place, the grass thrown on top of the frog grows, in the same way you become a steady flow in it. I will enter you in this dug-up space. (7)
