अथर्ववेद (कांड 7)
अपा॑ञ्चौ त उ॒भौ बा॒हू अपि॑ नह्याम्या॒स्यम् । अ॒ग्नेर्दे॒वस्य॑ म॒न्युना॒ तेन॑ तेऽवधिषं ह॒विः ॥ (४)
हे हमारे निमित्त अभिचार कर्म करने वाले मनुष्य! होम कर्म में लगे हुए तेरे दोनों हाथों को मैं पीछे की ओर बांधता हूं, जिस से वे होम करने में समर्थ न हो सकें. मंत्र का उच्चारण करने में समर्थ तेरे मुख को भी मैं बंद करता हूं. तेरे हाथों और मुख को बांधने से अग्नि देव के क्रोध के कारण तेरे हवि को मैं नष्ट करूंगा. (४)
O man who acts for us! I tie both your hands backwards while engaged in the work of the burnt deed, so that they may not be able to do the burn. I also close your face capable of chanting the mantra. By tying your hands and mouth, I will destroy your havi because of the wrath of the agni god. (4)
