अथर्ववेद (कांड 7)
विध्या॑म्यासां प्रथ॒मां वि॑ध्याम्यु॒त म॑ध्य॒माम् । इ॒दं ज॑घ॒न्यामासा॒मा छि॑नद्मि॒ स्तुका॑मिव ॥ (२)
दोष की दृष्टि से गंडमालाएं तीन प्रकार की हैं. उन्हीं का यहां वर्णन है. मैं इन पकी हुई गंडमालाओं में से मुख्य गंडमाला को जानता हूं, जिस की चिकित्सा करना कठिन है. मैं बाण से उसे फाड़ता हूं. दूसरे प्रकार की सुसाध्य अर्थात् सरलता से चिकित्सा के योग्य गंडमाला मध्यमा है. मैं उसे भी फोड़ता हूं. इस समय मैं इन गंडमालाओं के मध्य उस को ऊन के धागे के समान तोड़ता हूं, जिस की चिकित्सा थोड़े प्रयत्न से हो सकती है.
