ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
उ॒भे पु॑नामि॒ रोद॑सी ऋ॒तेन॒ द्रुहो॑ दहामि॒ सं म॒हीर॑नि॒न्द्राः । अ॒भि॒व्लग्य॒ यत्र॑ ह॒ता अ॒मित्रा॑ वैलस्था॒नं परि॑ तृ॒ळ्हा अशे॑रन् ॥ (१)
हे इंद्र! मैं यज्ञ द्वारा धरती और आकाश दोनों को पवित्र करता हूं एवं इंद्रद्रोहियों को आश्रय देने वाली धरती को भली-भांति जानता हूं. एकत्र हुए शत्रु हमें जहां भी मिले, वहीं मारे गए. मरे हुए वे श्मशानभूमि में इधर-उधर पड़े हैं. (१)
O Indra! I sanctify both the earth and the sky through yajna and I know well the earth that shelters the enemies. The gathered enemies were killed wherever we found them. The dead are lying around in the cremation ground. (1)

अ॒भि॒व्लग्या॑ चिदद्रिवः शी॒र्षा या॑तु॒मती॑नाम् । छि॒न्धि व॑टू॒रिणा॑ प॒दा म॒हाव॑टूरिणा प॒दा ॥ (२)
हे वैरीभक्षणकर्ता इंद्र! शत्रुओं की सेना का सिर अपने विस्तृत पैरों से कुचल दो. (२)
O scorpion Indra! Crush the head of the army of enemies with your wide legs. (2)

अवा॑सां मघवञ्जहि॒ शर्धो॑ यातु॒मती॑नाम् । वै॒ल॒स्था॒न॒के अ॑र्म॒के म॒हावै॑लस्थे अर्म॒के ॥ (३)
हे धनस्वामी इंद्र! इन आयुधसंपन्न सेनाओं की शक्ति नष्ट करके इन्हें निंदनीय श्मशान में फेंक दो. (३)
O Dhanaswami Indra! Destroy the power of these ordnanced armies and throw them into the condemnable crematorium. (3)

यासां॑ ति॒स्रः प॑ञ्चा॒शतो॑ऽभिव्ल॒ङ्गैर॒पाव॑पः । तत्सु ते॑ मनायति त॒कत्सु ते॑ मनायति ॥ (४)
हे इंद्र! तुमने एक सौ पचास शत्रु सेनाओं का विनाश किया. लोग इस काम को बड़ा कहते हैं, पर तुम्हारे लिए यह छोटा है. (४)
O Indra! You have destroyed one hundred and fifty enemy armies. People call this work big, but for you it's small. (4)

पि॒शङ्ग॑भृष्टिमम्भृ॒णं पि॒शाचि॑मिन्द्र॒ सं मृ॑ण । सर्वं॒ रक्षो॒ नि ब॑र्हय ॥ (५)
हे इंद्र! पीले रंग वाले, भयंकर शब्द करने वाले पिशाचों का नाश करो एवं संपूर्ण राक्षसो को समाप्त करो. (५)
O Indra! Destroy the yellow, fierce-word vampires and put an end to all the demons. (5)

अ॒वर्म॒ह इ॑न्द्र दादृ॒हि श्रु॒धी नः॑ शु॒शोच॒ हि द्यौः क्षा न भी॒षाँ अ॑द्रिवो घृ॒णान्न भी॒षाँ अ॑द्रिवः । शु॒ष्मिन्त॑मो॒ हि शु॒ष्मिभि॑र्व॒धैरु॒ग्रेभि॒रीय॑से । अपू॑रुषघ्नो अप्रतीत शूर॒ सत्व॑भिस्त्रिस॒प्तैः शू॑र॒ सत्व॑भिः ॥ (६)
हे इंद्र! तुम हमारी स्तुति सुनो और महान् मेघ को अधोमुख करके उसका विदारण करो. हे मेघस्वामी इंद्र! जिस प्रकार वृष्टि के अभाव में अन्न न होने से धरती दुःखी होती है, उसी प्रकार आकाश भी शोक करता है. जैसे त्वष्टा के भय से धरती और आकाश दुःखी थे, उसी प्रकार अन्न के अभाव से होते हैं. हे इंद्र! तुम अधिक बलवान् होने के कारण शत्रु विनाश में क्रूर उपाय अपनाते हो, पर अपने यजमानों का ध्वंस नहीं करते. हे वीर! तुम इक्कीस सेवकों से घिरे रहते हो, इसलिए शत्रु तुम पर आक्रमण नहीं करते. (६)
O Indra! Listen to Our praise and turn the great cloud down and disparage it. O Meghaswamy Indra! Just as the earth suffers due to lack of food in the absence of rain, so also the sky grieves. Just as the earth and the sky were grieved by the fear of the skin, so are the lack of food. O Indra! You take cruel measures in enemy destruction because you are more strong, but do not destroy your hosts. Oh, hero! You are surrounded by twenty-one servants, so the enemies do not attack you. (6)

व॒नोति॒ हि सु॒न्वन्क्षयं॒ परी॑णसः सुन्वा॒नो हि ष्मा॒ यज॒त्यव॒ द्विषो॑ दे॒वाना॒मव॒ द्विषः॑ । सु॒न्वा॒न इत्सि॑षासति स॒हस्रा॑ वा॒ज्यवृ॑तः । सु॒न्वा॒नायेन्द्रो॑ ददात्या॒भुवं॑ र॒यिं द॑दात्या॒भुव॑म् ॥ (७)
हे इंद्र! सोमरस निचोड़ने वाला यजमान उत्तम घर पाता है. सोमयज्ञकर्ता चारों ओर घिरे हुए शत्रुओं को समाप्त करके देवों के विरोधियों को भी नष्ट करता है. वह अन्न का स्वामी बनता है. उस पर कोई शत्रु आक्रमण नहीं करता. वह असीमित संपत्ति प्राप्त करता है. जो व्यक्ति इंद्र के निमित्त सोमयज्ञ करता है, उसे इंद्र चारों ओर अवस्थित एवं अति समृद्ध धन देते हैं. (७)
O Indra! The somras squeezer hosts find the best house. The Somayagyakar also destroys the opponents of the gods by eliminating the enemies surrounded around. He becomes the master of food. No enemy attacks him. He acquires unlimited assets. To the person who performs somayagya for the sake of Indra, Indra gives him rich and rich rich wealth located around him. (7)
